Student of the Week

Student of Week 3 Term 1 P/1/2 Saphyrah Evans 3/4 Beau Blewitt 5/6 Noah Ashford

Prep Photo

Preps had their photo taken for the Prep Liftout of the Fraser Coast Chronicle. This will be published in the paper on Wednesday 22nd March.

Student of Week 4 Term P/1/2 Reef Sanders 3/4 Mila Sanders 5/6 Gypsy Mott

P/1/2 Class: Mrs T We are already off to a great start this year. All

of the children have settled and and have been

involved with some exciting activities. Each Friday we are

using our thinking skills to work out different maths prob-

lems. One of the problems was to build beds out of

blocks or boxes to match the size of three different bears.

They had to use measuring equipment to get them exact-

ly right. Last week they had to work out how many cows

and chickens a farmer had if he saw a certain number of

legs.

It is great to see the students working out how to solve

the problems using a whole range of strategies (eg draw-

ing pictures, using materials etc.)

3/4 Class: Mrs Crawford We have had a busy start to the year in 3/4. For our English this term, we are studying Roald Dahl's The Twits and students will write their own chapter to add to the story. In Maths we are looking at Place Value, Addition and Subtraction and also

Chance. We are having lots of fun in class and learning lots already

All Classes: Mrs Sillitoe Last week each student at our school was given a letter from Typing Tournaments Online with their individual password and username. This is a program that Parke State School has subscribed to and can be accessed both at school and at home. Please encourage your child to practise typing using 10 fingers on the cor-rect keys. The more regularly this is done the faster the learning. If our child has misplaced their username and or password they are most welcome to see Mrs Sillitoe or their classroom teacher for an-other copy. 5/6 Class: Mrs Mac

The year 5/6 class is reading a variety of short stories this term as part of the English unit. We are enjoying a variety of stories both past and present. In Science we are completing a variety of experiments, testing out fair outcomes. We had one failed attempt with our bean seeds mysteriously disappearing. So not very fair, but have started again!!! For Maths, we are investigating fractions. This is a chal-lenge and we are spending most of our time cutting piz-zas and investigating who gets the most. Students have been completing a range of assessment in class. I will invite parents to meet with me once I have collected the term one data. Please remember, that if there is anything you need to discuss, give me a call to arrange a suitable time.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN CLASS

CONTACTS

ICAS TESTING

The International Competitions and Assessments for

Schools (ICAS) is an independent, skills-based assess-

ment program which recognises and rewards student

achievement.

The tests are designed for students from YEARS TWO

TO SIX. Students may choose to participate in SOME

or ALL of the tests. The tests are conducted throughout

the year. These tests include Digital Technologies, Sci-

ence, Writing, Spelling, English and Mathematics.

A note regarding these tests is included with the news-letter. There is a cost involved for each test. The order form and payment must be given to the office by Mon-day 13th March so that the tests can be ordered. PARTICIPATION IN THESE TESTS IS OPTIONAL FOR STUDENTS.

Attached to the newsletter this week is a student card for each student attending Parke State School. Could you please check all details on the student card and ensure they are correct. This includes phone numbers, employment details and emergency contacts. It is very important that the school has the correct details on file in case of emergency and we need to contact you.

Maths Text Books

The Go Maths books are being used in the classroom now. If you haven’t paid for your child's book please do so as soon as possible.
