From the Principal Welcome back to all of our families who are joining us for 2020 and our 50

th

Anniversary celebraons at Bateman Primary. I’m sll not sure what happened to

2019 and our 6 or 7 weeks of holidays but I can report that all of our students and

staff have returned happy and enthusiasc for the new school year. 2020 is going to

be another year of great teaching in the heart of our community.

We currently have 347 students a+ending Bateman Primary if we include the 11 who

are currently staying home because they recently travelled to China. If we don’t

count the new Kindy students, we have approximately 30 new children across the

school and I would like to welcome them all to the Bateman community.

As well as new students we have a few new staff members. We welcome Olivia Xu

who will be teaching Mandarin. Welcome back Carolyn Richer who will be teaching

Science in 2020 and ancipate the return of Teresa Loveland who will share the 2/3

class with Wayne Moseley.

The Early Childhood team are very happy to have the increased security around their

playground for the safety of the children and of the equipment. Although the project

wasn’t finished quite on me, it will be a huge benefit for all in that area and has

been a project of the team for a while. I can assure all families that there are

absolutely no plans from us or the Department to fence the rest of the school.

Our 50th

Anniversary will see a number of small celebraons spread across the year.

While our focus will always be on the academic and social/emoonal growth of each

child it is important that they are aware of the history around them and how

Bateman Primary is at the centre of our suburb.

Our first celebraon will be on Friday 27 March and will be an assembly where we

officially open our Bush Tucker Track, celebrate all things Bateman and hear from

one or two people who have been associated with the school over the years. More

informaon will be available as the term progresses.

As well as our always informave Parent Evening on 19 February, we have a number

of major events during the term of which you need to be aware. We will have school

photos for all students (and staff), swimming trials and carnivals for Year 4 – 6

students and swimming lessons for PP – Year 6 students and a number of incursions

to keep the students engaged and entertained.

This Monday evening will be the first meeng of our P&C Associaon in the Ulity

Room at 7pm. This is a great opportunity to come along and meet other parents and

hear about some of the P&C projects for 2020. Our P&C do an amazing amount to

support the school and its students and your comments and feedback is always

valued.

Zuludesk BYOD Setup 2020

As we’re starng school for 2020, you may be wondering what steps need to be taken in order to get your child’s

iPad set up with Zuludesk for the BYOD program this year. If your child has previously had the Zuludesk profile

installed by us and it was not removed over the holidays, they can simply bring it back to school and it should work

as it did last year. However, we do ask that any iPads sll on IOS 12 be updated to IOS 13 as we’re no longer

supporng IOS 12 or lower.

If your child is bringing a new iPad to school this year that has not previously been set up by us, we ask that you

ensure the following steps have been taken before bringing it to school for the Zuludesk BYOD setup. This will

ensure a smooth process to transion it from a home iPad to a BYOD iPad. Please note that the iPad will be wiped

of all data as part of this process.]

• The iPad has been backed up to iCloud (very important if you’d like to keep any data)

• Any passcodes or fingerprint scanner locks have been disabled

• Screen Time is not enabled

• Any iCloud accounts have been logged off from the device

Once the iPad has been set up with Zuludesk, the iPad is then able to be brought to school and used in the

classroom as part of our curriculum. The iPad can freely be used at home as a regular iPad, but Zuludesk will ensure

that it will only have the same apps and funconality as our shared iPads while at school.

If your child’s iPad needs to be set up for our BYOD program, we will be able to set it up for you at a date specific to

your child’s classroom. These dates will be announced to all classrooms at a later date. We will be starng the

process by seNng up BYOD iPads for pre-primary students on Tuesday the 18th

of February. From there, we will be

working our way through every class up to the year 5/6 classes.

If your child does not submit their iPad on the specified date or if an iPad needs to be set up aPer this date, the

students may bring their iPads to school to be set up on any given Tuesday or Wednesday aPer the BYOD setup

process has been completed for all classes.

This is a mely reminder that there are students in the school who have a nut allergy – all nuts. This means that if

they comes into contact with nuts directly or someone who has been handling a nut product, they will suffer a

severe reacon - anaphylaxis.

With this in mind, we have put a number of strategies into place in the classroom which includes washing of hands

aPer each break, ensuring students only eat their food and liming contact between students at eang mes.

We would also like to ask that consideraon be taken when making your child’s lunch to limit the number of nut

products in the classroom. Your consideraon in this ma+er would be greatly appreciated. If you have any

queries, please don’t hesitate to contact us at school.

Vacant Posi<on – P&C Fun Events Coordinator(s)

If you have a knack for making things happen (what parent doesn’t), like organising events and enjoy seeing your

plans come together, we would love to have you on our team! During the course of the school year, your P&C

runs, promotes, coordinates a number of events and projects (usually one or two events per term). We need you,

the ‘Oracle’, to oversee and ensure your merry band of helpful, passionate parent

helpers are doing the right things at the right me, so things run oh so smoothly. Full

training and support provided. If you are interested in a posion and would like know

more, please contact Glenn Beauchamp (P&C President) 0411 116 966, Mike Baldwin

(P&C Vice President) 0406 666 567 or come along to one of our P&C meengs.

Class Representa<ves for 2020

The P&C are looking for two volunteering parents (preferably one for each year group) from each class to be a class

representaves in 2020. Having class representave helps provide a point of contact for parents, class teacher and

the P&C. Class Representaves dues simply involve…

1. Compiling a ‘Class Friendship List’ (with Child’s Name, Year, Parent/s Name and Contact Number), emailing the

list to class parents only and keeping it up to date to help build social networks – this is parcularly helpful for

new parents to the school, arranging playdates, party invitaons etc.

2. (Oponal) Organise class social events or acvies like coffee mornings, dinners, end of year celebraons etc.

The School Newsle+er, Skoolbag, Website, P&C Facebook Page and direct correspondence from the Class Teacher

will always be the form of communicaon to parents with what’s happening in the classroom, in and around the

school, fundraising iniaves and upcoming social events etc and not via the Class Reps.

Class Reps are not to be used or help other parents express concern about their own children. This should be done

directly between the parents themselves and the teacher. Class Reps do not have to be part of the P&C and are

not required to a+end P&C meengs – although you are most welcome to a+end.

Please advise your classroom teacher or Kathy Stafford at [email protected] of your interest by 19

February so that a ‘Class Rep Informaon Pack’ containing templates, forms, class lisng etc can be forwarded to

you.

Next P&C Annual General Mee<ng (AGM) - Monday 16 March 2020 – All Welcome

Each year, parents and members of the community work together on a variety of fundraising iniaves

and projects around the school to benefit your child’s educaon experience. You can support the school

by volunteering a few hours a months with things ideally matched to your skills and experse.

To comply with Western Australian Council of State School Organisaon Inc. (WACSSO) requirements, the AGM

must be held between 31 December 2019 and 30 April 2020, and held only once per year.

All posions on the P&C are declared vacant during the AGM for elecon and vong, with new P&C members

commencing their role in Week 7/8, February 2020.
