GENERAL MEETING
Wednesday 8th May 3:15pm
Newsletter Date: Friday 3rd May, 2019
From the Principal... Welcome to Week 2! We have had a busy and now wet start to the term so far.
Every Day Counts
Every day of term is important, missing days in the beginning of term students are missing
important new skills taught. If your child/ren must be away please ensure the
school/classroom teacher is told in advance to ensure we can have assessment completed.
Every minute of every day also counts. We have had a few late arrivals recently which is not
only causing disruptions to the learning of students who are on time but those students
who are late are also missing the beginning of lessons.
Our current attendance rate is 92.1%, our school goal is to be at 94%.
Contacting Teachers
We are here to help and support the development and learning of every student in our
school. For a quick chat, before or after school is always welcome but, to ensure we are
giving you our full attention, for lengthy discussions please arrange a time to meet. Class
time is class time and we will be teaching your wonderful children and unable to discuss
anything with parents other than an emergency at that time. Junior room parents, message
books are a great way to pass on a quick note or ask a question.
ANZAC DAY Thank you to the wonderful P&C for the effort before, during and after the Gunfire Breakfast on Anzac Day. It was fantastic to see so many of our students marching and attending the community service this year. All students were on their best behaviour and this was noted at the end of the service. Thank you John Craufurd for putting together all parts of the day. STEM Challenge STEM or Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics is an important part of our curriculum and will be important in the workforce for students in the future. We teach each of these subjects separately but will be putting them together to provide students with more exposure and experience to the problem solving side of STEM. On Friday afternoons from 2pm—3pm students will be engaging in a STEM Challenge. It will not be reported on but will be valuable for their learning in this area. Springbrook is hoping to put an environmental focus on our challenges to keep it relevant to our students and community. I will be providing more information shortly. School Resource Scheme A quick reminder that School Resource Scheme payments were due at the end of last term. If you have outstanding payments or are unsure, please see Sue Northam in the office on Tuesday or Friday. An invoice will be sent to those families with outstanding payments next week. Sandpit Update THE SANDPIT IS COMING! Demolition of the old sandpit is to begin Tuesday 7th May with construction of the new sandpit commencing the following week. The area will be fenced and we have strict Health and Safety measures in place. The area is out of bounds to all students, siblings and adults at all times.

This week we will be concentrating on “using appropriate words”.
We have been teaching students that we not only need to use
kind words but also appropriate words. If we don’t want to say it
in front of our grandmother, we shouldn’t be saying it at school. It
is natural for children to experiment with language however, as
adults we need to continue to reinforce which words we shouldn’t
be saying. At school, swear words and rude gestures are definitely
inappropriate and we have told students if they hear someone
else say them, we need to report it to an adult straight away.
We are continually working on “thinking about other people’s
feelings as well as your own”.
Student of the Week! Congratulations to:
Lachlan
Isabelle

This week we have planted our broccoli and observed night and day time changes to the sky. Thank you to those families who recorded their night sky observations and returned it to school as a part of our homework.
From the Junior Room
From Your P&C
Congratulations to the P&C for yet another wonderful ANZAC Gunfire breakfast. It is
amazing to see so many parents, friends and family pitching in with planning and
preparation, ordering and picking up supplies, and turning up at such an early hour for
this wonderful community event. A huge thank you to everyone involved.
We are set for a big few weeks and are putting the call out for help once again.
Remember - the P&C exists to support our school and its students and it cannot run with-
out help from everybody, even if it's just an hour of your time, every little bit makes a
difference.
