FROM THE PRINCIPAL I would like begin by congratulating Year 12 student, Jaedan Calder for recently achieving the prestigious “Queen Scout” Award. Each year only a few Venturer Scouts achieve this prestigious award, which will be presented by the Governor and Chief Scout of New South Wales, at Government House on Saturday, 5th August. To achieve this prestigious award a Venturer Scout must achieve 13 badges in the Venturer Award and then complete four additional awards in the areas of Adventurous Activities, Community Involvement, Leadership Development and Personal Growth. Well done Jaedan, this is a wonderful achievement. A reminder that our Year 7 and 10 parent teacher night and Year 10 subject selection evening is on Tuesday 20 June and the Year 8 and 9 PT night and Year 8 subject selection evening is on Tuesday 27 June. Bookings are all online. You need to log on to the school website and enter the code number which was posted out to you. If you do not have the internet at home, please call the school and we will organise your bookings for you. We look forward to seeing lots of parents in attendance on these evenings. As the end of the financial year is now less than one month away, I would like to remind parents about our project with the Australian Sports Foundation (ASF). Westfields is registered with the ASF to purchase equipment for our strength and conditioning program. This means that all donations of $2 and over are tax deductible. Your donation goes directly to the ASF who then return your donation to the school. If you are able to assist us in this cause, you can either contact the school or visit our website www.westfields- h.schools.nsw.edu.au for a fact sheet and donation form (via the Talented Sport program link). Our students would certainly appreciate your support. At the end of this term, Westfields will be changing over to a new finance structure. As this will effect all payments and receipts, a separate letter explaining this 2 June 2017 IMPORTANT EVENTS 20/6/2017 Parent / Teacher Interviews Years 7 & 10 20/6/2017 Year 10 Subject Selection 6:30pm 27/6/2017 Parent / Teacher Interviews Years 8 & 9 27/6/2017 Year 8 Subject Selection 6:30pm

At the end of this term, Westfields will be changing over to a new finance structure. As this will effect all payments and receipts, a separate letter explaining this new process has previously be sent out. One of the consequences is that before we roll over to this new structure, we require all outstanding fees to be paid. As such I would ask that all parents pay all outstanding fees immediately.

I would also like to remind parents that we are a uniform school. I realise that the weather has turned cold, however, that is not an excuse for students to turn up at school in an array of different coloured tops. Students have the option of the jumper, tracksuit jacket or blazer, all which are reasonably priced and all available from our uniform shop every Thursday. Hoodies or beanies will not be accepted under any circumstances. Parents of regular offenders will be contacted by one of the Deputy Principals.

Our next P&C meeting is at 6.30pm on Wednesday 28 June. Meetings are held in the Administration Block. We hope to see you there.

Stretches to do before training and game daysGone are the days where you complete endless amounts of static stretches just before you play. The new research indicates the best approach prior to playing, is to perform dynamic active movements (“moving stretches”), which allow the desired muscles to stretch out through their full range. This approach has been shown to warm up the muscles and optimise the muscle strength when compared to static stretches (“holding stretch”) which tend to decrease muscle activation. Ideally a warm up should stretch the muscle through its full range and wake up the muscles in preparation for the match ahead.

If you want to learn more about the most appropriate stretches for you, come down to the physiotherapy rooms onsite or give the practice a call on 96043122.
