From the Principal’s Desk Dear Parents and Carers School Choir at Castlemaine State Fes val Last weekend, Ms Townsend, Miss Harris, Ms Fran, Miss Dare, Miss Griffiths and I travelled to Castlemaine in central Victoria with 31 students. The Choir had been invited to perform the Possum Cloak Song at the Gurrong Concert on Saturday evening, with well known ar sts, Archie Roach, Shane Howard, the Mae Trio and others. The students sang beau fully, with warmth and delight. The song tells the story of our cloak, which represents all the stories, cultures and backgrounds of the students, families and staff of our Heatherhill community The children performed brilliantly and as we walked around Castlemaine the next day, several people stopped to talk to us and congratulate the students. Several people wanted to know more about our school and about the Possum Skin Cloak. I am proud to be able to tell others about our amazing group of stu‐dents and our great school (best school in the world!). The Castlemaine Primary School community and the Castlemaine Choir were excep onally generous and hospitable. They provided accommoda on for the students and teachers to sleep over, amazing home cooked pizza (from the school’s own pizza oven) and cooked a hearty country breakfast – eggs, bacon, toast, fruit buns, juice – on Sunday morning. They made sure that students with special dietary require‐ments, such as halal or vegetarian, were catered for also. I want to acknowledge the huge contribu on the
teachers, Ms Townsend, Miss Harris, Ms Fran, Miss
Dare and Miss Griffiths gave to our students last week‐
end. Not only did weeks of prepara on go into plan‐
ning for the weekend, they devoted the whole week‐
end, from early Saturday morning to late Sunday a er‐
noon to ensuring the students were safe, happy, and
cared for. It is a huge task to take responsibility for and
look a er 31 children in a new environment, away from home, away from parents and carers, travelling across the state. Our teachers were always cheerful, caring and made sure that the children were happy and safe. And, despite their redness, were at work on Monday morning, ready for another week! Our students were marvellous and demonstrated great resilience. They coped with everything that was presented – lots of walking, carrying their own bags and cases, per‐forming on stage, train chaos and at all mes were cheer‐ful and relaxed. I am a very fortunate principal to have staff members who
are so commi ed to the wellbeing of our students, provid‐
ing opportuni es for them, enabling them to “expand
their horizons”. I am indeed fortunate to have such great
kids at our school and I am very grateful that parents and
carers entrust us with their precious children.

Fes val of Thought – Thursday, 26 March, 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm At Heatherhill we celebrate and showcase the learning undertaken each term. The overarching theme across the school for Term 1 has been “Thinking”. Each learning cen‐tre has inves gated “Thinking” in a different way, appro‐priate to the level and abili es of the students. Students have explored how to think ethically and careful‐ly. They have studied different ideas, asked probing ques‐ons, created artwork, explored different texts and de‐
bated current issues. At the Fes val of Thought all students will showcase the Inquiry Learning for Term 1. Some marvellous ac vi es include: puppet plays; debates; philosophical thinking; reflec ons; Art works; Healthy Mind/Healthy Body; Yoga; Literature Circles; role plays; and much, much more! All students are expected to a end with their parents or car‐ers. I extend an invita on to you to par cipate, engage in dia‐

BREAKFAST CLUB IS CHANGING
Breakfast Club is undergoing a renovation. We won some funding to put in a new kitchen but KITCH-ENS ARE VERY EXPENSIVE!!!!
We were lucky to have kitchen cabinets, an oven, a cooktop and a rangehood donated to us by BUN-NINGS. The vinyl flooring has been donated through our builder – Ray. A big thank-you to Peter Wain (husband of our aide Dianne), who donated a sink. This meant working out how to fit the kitchen cabi-nets into our Breakfast Club so that it is efficient to use. Fortunately our Maintenance Man – Keith – is very skilled and he has prepared our room for all the work that needs to happen. Our grant will pay for most of but not all of the building works. We will have fund raisers through Student Council next term to raise money for furni-ture and reverse cycle air-conditioning. Over the holidays the following works will take place: The room will be painted Installation of all cabinets Plumbing of the sink Wiring of power points and heavy duty wiring
