5th March 2015 Issue 3 Primary School Dear Parents, Caregivers and Community Members, Welcome back to what promises to be another exciting and busy Term 4. I hope all students had an enjoyable holiday and are ready to finish the year off by continuing to do their best. On the first day of the holidays I had the pleasure of seeing our Junior and Senior Choir, the Year 6 Riptide Group as well as our Senior Dance Group perform at the Rockingham KIWI Festival. Endeavour had a large contingent of students taking part and all the performances were outstanding. Thank you to all those students and parents who gave up their time to participate in the festival. Special thanks also to Mrs Nurse, Mrs Campbell, Mrs Lewis and Mrs Cross who prepared the items and organised all the groups on the day. There‟s always a lot happening in Term 4 so it‟s a great idea to keep up with the latest news by checking the school website. „Give us a Google‟ at Endeavour Schools and follow the link on the School Calendar to find the Term 4 planner. Endeavour also has a handy phone app which is free and suitable for both android and iPhone. Kindy and Pre Primary places are still available for 2016 so if you are yet to enrol your child or know someone who is looking for a place in these years please contact the school. If you are relocating to a new area next year please let the school know as this has an effect on the formation of classes. Parent requests for special consideration of class placements for next year are now invited. The requests must be in writing and reach the school by 13th November. Requests after this date will not be accepted. The Term 4 Incentival is a trip to the cinema to see a pre- release movie. As always, the Incentival is aimed at rewarding good behaviour and attendance. Last term a number of well- behaved students missed out on Incentival as a result of poor attendance. Students must have an attendance rate of 90% or above to be eligible to go to the movies and all the absences add up. Please note that this includes being late to school on a regular basis. Reasonable written excuses and/or medical certificates are required for all absences, especially if over an extended period. It looks like being great weather for the Endeavour Schools Faction Carnival tomorrow. Good luck to all factions and competitors. Greg Croll - Acting Principal Education Support Centre Dear Parents and Caregivers, Welcome back for Term 4 of 2015. We‟ve got lots going on this term and I encourage you all to watch the newsletter carefully for all the up-coming events throughout the term. Our staff returned to this term with a professional learning session about Sensory Processing for students and classroom activities that best support the sensory needs of our students which was very informative and engaging. We worked with Occupational Therapists from Rocky Bay on identifying the sensory needs of students and created whole class and individual plans to address these needs within the school environment. It was a great session for all our staff who have come away with some more strategies to put in place in our school. Last term our overall attendance rate for all students was above 92% which is fantastic and means that we reached our target for Semester 1, however within that percentage there are a number of students whose individual attendance rate is below 80% which does not meet our target of ALL students having an attendance rate of above 80%. We work very hard to ensure that all our students have their educational needs met while at school but we are unable to do this well when students are absent for a large percentage of the school term. In Term 4 we are going to be working very closely all our families in order to attain our attendance targets for the remainder of this year and into the future. Keep up the great work everyone! I‟m looking forward to our Sports Carnival this week and I hope you are all ready for the challenge. Best of luck to all the factions and I hope you all have a fabulous day. I hope to see lots of parents and family members join us for this great event! That‟s all for now, Jayne Gorbould - ESC Principal From The Principals Issue 16 15th October 2015 Following our recent school photography by Kapture, you can now view and order any sports and / or special photos taken on the day. The Senior Choir will be participating in the Westcoast Songfest on Wednesday, 21st October. Our school is also sending 2 preconcert entertainers, Jacob Legg (snare drum solo) and Helayna Miller (dance solo). We wish them the best of luck with their performances and we know they'll all enjoy a fabulous day as they join with 7 other Rockingham choirs. The long term vision for the Westcoast Songfest is to sing at the Perth Arena in 2016. Music Count Us In 2015 is almost here (for PP to yr 6.). Please come and join us on Thursday 29th October for a super half hour music assembly, finishing with the big sing across Australia of the song, "Gold". P & C vice president, Mrs Jill Savory, and Year 6 teacher, Mrs Alison Taljaard, will play their clarinets with our Year 6 flute students and Year 4 and 5 recorder group. Other students will be playing guitar, ukulele, the drum kit and other percussion instruments. If you wish to join the adult and student "Gold" band please send me a note. Community Notices

Please check the noticeboard outside the staffroom and office windows

regularly for community events and sporting information received by the

schools. Notices in the Community Advertising section are inserted for your

information. The schools are not associated with any of these groups or

businesses. Endeavour Schools have EFTPOS facilities available in the front office. This facility can be used for payments over $10 such as

contributions, swimming lessons or excursions/incursions. Excursions/Incursions less than $5.00 must go through the class

money books. Parents can now make payments in advance for any future expenses

such as swimming lessons, incentivals and excursions. These payments will be held as credit in your child‟s account and then

allocated against excursions as they occur. Payment can be made by cash, EFTPOS or direct deposit. If you

require any more information, please see the front office.

Listening is an important skill for social interaction. Encourage

your child to follow these tips to be a better speaker and listener.

1. Wait until you have the person’s attention before you start

speaking.

2. Make eye contact – don’t yell or talk across the room.

3. Practice taking turns and have a conversation with your child.

4. Body language can show that you are interested and

listening well. Nodding and smiling show you are listening

and understanding.

5. Ask questions to find out more information. Who? What? When? Where? Why? How?
