Whether your little readers love narwhals or unicorns, or maybe both, this event kit has all the tips and tricks you need to throw the perfect party or event!

Setting Up Your SpaceThere are so many ways to make your space look like an underwater havenfor narwhals, or an onshore playground for unicorns! Easily recreate some of the banners Kelp’s family celebrates with using butcher paper and markers! You can also twist green streamers and tape them to the walls, ceilings, or tables to simulate seaweed. Mix in some blue streamers then blow up a variety of blue and silver balloons to mimic bubbles. To add to the underwater effect, place fans around your decorations so that they gently sway with the tide, er, breeze.

For your aboveground section, rainbow decorations are your best friend. You can create clouds for either side of your rainbow using cotton balls glued to poster board or paper plates. Unicorns love frolicking in the sunshine, so including flowers, butterflies, and rays of sunlight will also help set up the perfect ambiance!

SnacksHere’s where things get really fun. There are a TON of different narwhal and unicorn-themed snacks that kids are sure to love! And the best part is they’re super easy to make.

MusicNow that you have your guests invited and your event space and snacks set up, time for music. Here are some song suggestions which can be played via Spotify here: bit.ly/NQNPlaylist

Edible Narwhals:Create edible narwhals by decorating twinkies with icing or candy, and using the end of ice cream cones as horns! This can also be a great activity for kids during the event.

Unicorn Horns:A bowl of Bugles can be labeled “Unicorn Horns.”

Rainbow Seeds:Bowls of Skittles, jelly beans, or other brightly colored candies can be labeled “Rainbow Seeds.”

Unicorn Food:As we all know, the main food group for unicorns is cotton candy, so it’s probably best to have plenty of that on hand.

Uni-Cones:Just like in Not Quite Narwhal, ice cream served in uni-cones is a great dessert to top off your party!

Other On-Theme Snacks:Set out bowls of Rainbow Goldfish, decorate cupcakes with brightly colored icing and sprinkles, or create mini unicorns by decorating cake pops!

ActivitiesDecorate Your Horn

You Will Need:• Thick paper• Scissors• Tape• Thin ribbons• Crafting supplies such as

crayons, markers, glitter, or stickers

Instructions:1. Copy the reproducible image

on the next page as many times as necessary. Be sure to print on thick paper.

2. Cut along the perforated lines.3. Roll paper into a horn shape,

then tape along the edges.4. Tape one piece of ribbon to

the inside of each side of the horn so that children can tie it under their chins.

5. Set out decorating supplies such as crayons, markers, glitter, or stickers.6. Allow children to decorate to their hearts’ content, then wear for the rest of the party.

Pin the Horn on the Narwhal! Or Unicorn! Or Both! This is an easy game kids will love. Give Pin the Tale on the Donkey a Not Quite Narwhal twist by creating a large narwhal or unicorn (or both!) on butcher paper and taping it to a wall. Have blindfolded children try to pin the horn on the narwhal or unicorn’s head! Give out a small prize to the child who gets it the closest.

Horn Ring TossThis is a great game if you have a big room or an outdoor space. Set up a traffic cone (which can be decorated to be more on-theme, or left as is) and have children toss a ring or hula hoop, trying to get the ring around the cone. Give a prize to the child who gets it the closest or the child who can get the ring around the cone the most times.
