Our Quilt Festival is coming together

– thanks to the hard work you and

your committees are doing.

Please remember to Promote, Promote, Promote all of the ac-

tivities which will be happening at the Festival – Preview Night (Wednesday),

Ricky Tims concerts (Thursday and Friday nights), and Classes, Classes, Classes.

Also encourage your Guild members to purchase their Festival (1-day and 3-

day) tickets, T-shirts, pins, bags and the pattern for the Festival Quilt from you. A

reminder to all of us, 3-day passes will only be available either through the

Guild or on-line. However, if they purchase them through the Guild they will

save money at $25 each rather than on-line at $30 (plus shipping and handling

charges).

Many people have completed their registration and then have logged off OR have added

a class and then are experiencing difficulty when trying to complete their purchases or add

additional classes.

Our recommendations are as follow:

1. The most effective way to log in to your account is by PC. The site has experienced diffi-

culty for individuals using an Ipad if the user has not cleared their cache and cookies. If

you are only using an Ipad, clear your cache and cookies first, then proceed with step 2.

January Progress Report Susie Saunders Co-Chair:

I have sent another Vendor mailing to include those who have been on the wait list. We

are continuing to keep our Vendors Quilt related vs “filling a space”.

Welcome Vendor Letter has been sent out with introductions of the committees who will be

working with them during the Festival. (Demo’s, Show-book, Vendor in/out & Social Media)

Our KCRQF Press Release is in the process of being sent. If you have a community billboard,

internet provider etc. who accepts community news and you would like for me to send out

our Press Release please acquire their email contact information and I will send.

Be on the look-out for our latest ad in American Patchwork and Quilting to hit newsstands

on Feb 6th. Phyllis Carlisle did a FABULOUS job providing the ad for us. Please take time to

send her a thank you!!

The Executive Board joined Julie & I in a site visit at the Overland Park Convention Center.

We were happy with the new configuration using the ballroom as our entrance area and

will have plenty of space to contain our Quilt Show. Great news!

We continue to interview alternate Pipe & Drape companies with one more visit to go.

(These are the folks who set up the booth areas, provide signage etc)

Julie and I both met with the Demo committee, great meeting they have a good outline

ahead.

Biggest news: The Registration system is up and working!!! WE have had only a few small

hiccups. We are happy to see that you all are signing up for classes, lectures and Pre-View

night too!

Checking with the White Theater we are thrilled to also see that you have been acquiring

your tickets for Ricky Tims. Yay to us all as our time grows closer for the Festival.

Regarding the Regpack system, Julie and I believe we will be using this system for White

Glove sign-ups. There will be more information coming for this at the March meeting. Ju-

lie’s report will contain some EXCITING NEWS for Volunteers!

Master Class with Ricky Tims, Session 1 Friday

June 14, 8:30-10:30 Lecture Style…...Be pre-

pared for plenty of “Ah-ha” and “Duh, I wish I had

known that before!” moments in this insanely popular

Mini Master Class Lecture. Not only are there sewing

tricks, but organizational and management tips for

quilters are included as well. Mini-piped binding, birth-

ing a quilt, and burying frayed tails are just a few of

the many super-practical things covered. Don’t keep

track as there are likely to be more than eleven cool

things presented.

Session 2 -- 10:30 am to 12:00 noon --

"Stress Free and Fun Quilts" by Ricky Tims

Quilters know the basics of quarter-inch seams and getting

things “just right”. However, in this Mini Master Class Lecture

you will learn to let loose and break some of the rules with-

out sacrificing quality of workmanship. Learn improvisational

patchwork (aka Quilting Caveman Style). Learn Ricky’s ad-

dictive method for slicing and dicing called Convergence

Quilts. And finally, enjoy Primitive Traditional Patchwork, a

great project for all quilters, but also a great project to do

with kids because you ‘can’t mess it up’. It’s like three clas-

ses in one.

The process to design your own original Rhapsody"

Learn the process to design your own original legacy-

oriented and masterful Rhapsody quilt. Don’t be fooled! A

Rhapsody quilt is easier than most traditional quilts. You will

learn the easy design process followed by Ricky’s No-pins

Precision Curved Piecing as well as his prize-winning Outline

Appliqué, using the beautiful and forgiving double blanket

Kaw Valley Quilters Guild Since 1977

Meetings are at 7 p.m. the Monday evening before the third Tuesday of each month, and at 9:30 a.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vermont, Lawrence, KS.

The Kaw Valley Quilters Guild is an educational non-profit organization. Its purpose is to stimulate an interest in quilts and to promote and advance the art of quilting in all of its forms. Dues are $35 per calendar year renewable in September. Membership is open to anyone interested in quilts or quilting. Members receive a monthly newsletter, a roster of members, and use of the book and pattern library. They also enjoy monthly meetings, workshops, discounts, and special events.

I have seen Ricky Tim’s perform a couple times. He is very funny and entertaining and a talented piano player. I have taken clas-ses from him and use techniques learned in his class. Deb Ells-worth, Kaw Valley Q.G.

Sue Heinz is the owner of Kismet Quilting LLC, and is the author of four books, brimming with

fresh design ideas for free-motion quilting and has also designed several innovative marking

tools – all to delight, intrigue and inspire. In addition to teaching at guilds and national

shows across the country, her designs, books and tools have been featured in online TV and

national and international publications. She brings a Fine Arts and Education background

and over twenty-five years of quilting experience to the classroom. Her designs have in-

spired both novice and expert quilters alike. Sue lives in White Bear Lake, MN with her hus-

band Tom. They have two wonderful daughters and two awesome sons-in-law. She teach-

es at national quilting shows, local guilds, trunk shows and retreats. Specializing in free-

motion and longarm quilting, Sue shares her unique quilting style and innovative techniques

in fun classes using lots of visual aids and easy, step-by-step instruction. *$5.00 donation/

Twilight Stitchers Quilt Guild

We meet at 7:00 p.m. on the 2nd Monday,

at Colonial Hills Community of Christ Church,

3539 SW State Highway 7,Blue Springs, MO.

In January, members had miniature quilt stands that were made by one of the husbands

and made mini quilts using scrapbook paper. Cute! Our February meeting will be School-

house, featuring techniques shown by a few of the members. In March, Angela Walters will

be our program and non-members are welcome to attend. There will be a $5 admission

fee. We have three mini quilts for the auction collected from our members Jim Brown,

Kathy Fisher and Becky Cogan, and expect a few more.

After our February, 18th meeting, Liz Grandberg will be presenting Hexfied Panel Quilts. Liz is

the owner of Gypsy Dreamer Quilts in Baldwin City, KS. We still have a couple of openings

for the workshop. The workshop will last until 4 PM. If you are interested in attending or

fee for the workshop for attendees not Raymore Guild Members is $45. She has a kit with

the pattern for $25.

The Raymore Quilt Guild has been working on the Merchandising options for the Kansas City

Regional Quilt Guild. We are excited with the merchandise options that are going to be

available. Besides the items that will be available for pre-sale to the participating guilds, we

will have some additional items that will be available at KCRQF’s vendor booth.

Feb. 2, 2019

The Mo-Kan Heart Quilt Guild will have their first workshop for community service for the homeless. We will

be making grab bags for the homeless and book covers at the Rockhurst Community Center, 5401 Troost,

Kansas City, MO, from 1:30 – 6:00pm. The bags are being donated to the City Union Mission.

Feb. 16, 2019

The Mo-Kan Heart Quilt Guild will have their regular meeting on Feb. 16, 2019, at St. John’s UMC, 6900 Ward

Parkway, Kansas City, MO, from 1-4pm. We will be working on our small quilts and unfinished quilts!

Our February 14, 2019, meeting will be held at our regular location at the Lansing Communi-

ty Center and we will have a demo night/gadget night. We typically try to have demo/

gadget nights in January and February with our own talented members so in case of bad

weather a speaker doesn’t have to travel or possibly cancel.

We will start accepting donated mini quilts for the silent auction at our festival meet-

ings thru April. Please remember to have the completed required form (and optional form

if you so desire), securely attached to the back of the mini quilt. Thank You for your contri-

bution!

In January, the guild hosted Cynthia Parry, speaking on The Japan Disaster. It was an in-

teresting and inspirational talk

In February, we will have Robyn Gregg showing a Trunk Show of Pictorial Quilts. In March,

we will have our annual fundraiser meeting. Come join us if you would like an opportunity

to increase your stash.

We are starting to prepare for our annual quilt show, the Northland Needlers Quilt Show,

which will be held Sept. 21st and 22nd at the Hillside Christian Church. Northland Needlers

Quilt Show is an annual Quilt Show organized by Northland Quilter's Guild and Nitetime

Needlers Quilt Guild in Gladstone, MO.

Our February meeting is an annual “Valentine Tea”, every-

one brings a valentine for a member. We have “tea and

refreshments” plus play a few games. For “show and tell”

we will be bringing a quilt that we “love”. The meeting is

our chance to have a lot of laughs and plenty of time for

fellowship. Happy Valentines Day!

KCMQG’s 2019 is off to a fabulous start! Members Mary Thomas and Renee Arnett received grants from KCMQG in 2018 and shared what they learned with the guild. Mary’s grant enabled her to take a work-shop with quilt designer Laura Heine. She shared the collage quilting techniques she learned during that workshop. Renee demonstrated paper piecing techniques she learned from Tula Pink, Stacey Day and Jenny Pedigo. Prairie Point Quilt and Fabric Shop sponsored the meeting and contributed to the tips and tricks portion of the evening by demonstrating an appliqué technique with Charlotte’s Fusible Web and Mono-Poly thread.

We’re turning 10! The KCMQG will celebrate its 10th birthday in Janu-ary 2020 and plans are underway to look back at some memories and milestones from our first decade.

February’s meeting will feature member Merrie Ford’s presentation. Merrie loves the color brown – a rare choice for a Modern Quilter! In her words, “What could be wrong with fabric that is the color of choco-late, coffee, caramel, toffee, nutmeg, ginger or cinnamon?!” She’ll be showing us how to incorporate brown in our creations.

The Blue Valley Quilters Guild

Our meeting is the first Tuesday of the month at the Village on Anti-och, 14895 Antioch Road, Overland Park, KS 66221. Please enter at the south entrance.. Social time begins at 9:00 a.m. with our meeting starting at 9:30 a.m.

At our February meeting, members will make quilts for charity. The challenge is to see how many

can be completed for the various charities BVQG supports in one day by the membership.

Donna Lynn Thomas – Our speaker for March is Donna Lynn Thomas. Donna has authored 14 titles

with Martingale, self-published one book, and one with the Kansas City Star. She has also contribut-

ed articles in numerous publications over the years. She has appeared in Craftsy classes and QNN-

TV episodes. Donna has designed Omnigrid On-Point Ruler and On-Point Square. Donna will pre-

sent her program “Make Mine Mini” to the guild and will conduct a workshop titled “Magical Mirrored

Stars”.

Safehome – In January, members donated money for 19 twin bed microfiber blankets, 2 sets of twin

bed sheets, 7 more trundle bed size quilts, 8 rolls of toilet paper, 16 pairs fuzzy socks, 35 pairs of

low-profile athletic socks, 12 pairs of children's gloves, assortment of Mary Kay products, as well as

money to support the kitchen.

Sit & Stitch – February we like to "pay it forward" to Rose Estates. This year we will be making

"Dinner Scarves" for the residents. We have collected a big stack of fabric for use in making these

scarves. If you want to make one for yourself you will go home with a pattern. We also can use more

polyester, or very soft fabric that drapes well. Come Thursday, February 14th with your sewing ma-

chine & supplies and be ready to construct in assembly line. Joyce Edwards will be the leader for the

day.

Block Exchange – Members will join in the fun of making the monthly quilt block (a heart) and take

the chance to win all of the blocks submitted this month.

Retreat – Plans are underway for another FABULOUS Guild retreat in April, with the theme “It’s About Time”. Fun times!

Starlight Quilters Guild was all ready for 2019 to start. And then, freezing rain and sleet came and put a halt

to our first meeting. We are working to reschedule Jane Bromberg sometime this summer. That means

that our members are doubly looking forward to Kim Melton’s presentation on Feb 26. Kim is a teacher and

staff member at Harper’s Fabric and Quilts and is well known in the local quilting community.

We have a big year planned. In May, Edyta Sitar from Laundry Basket Quilts will present a program and a

workshop. In August, Mary Fons will spend the day with us. Rumor has it she may be accompanied by fami-

ly. (or maybe that’s just wishful thinking). Starlight will once again hold our quilt show at Abdulla Shriner’s

Center in Mission, KS October 4 & 5. .

The Northland Quilters Guild

meets the second Thursday of each month. Visitors

are welcome. Meetings are at the Gashland United

Methodist Church, 7715 N Oak Trafficway, Kansas

City, Mo. Meetings start at 10 AM with a business

meeting followed by a featured speaker.

Olathe Quilter’s Guild will be working with the Johnson County Extension Office in Olathe to provide several quilting workshops again in 2019. The next class coming up in March 26th, Paper Piecing, led by Barb Fife. Our February Guild meeting looks to be a busy and fun time. Members can arrive as early as noon to work on projects for the charities we support. During the regular meeting time, in addition to the option of contin-uing those projects, we’ll be registering quilts that members would like to display at KCRQF this summer and demos will be presented on a variety of techniques.

Tia Curtis presented a trunk show of her delightful quilts at our

January meeting. Tia is offering several classes at the regional

festival.

The February guild meeting is our annual fund raiser. Members

provide baskets of goodies, quilt or non quilt related, for pur-

chase by other guild members. In addition there is a silent auc-

tion as well as games designed to raise funds for the guild. Pro-

ceeds do not toward monthly guest speaker fees.

Our Quilted Blessings Chair reported that she distributed

over 80 quilts donated by guild members to 3 separate

charities.

The 2019 President for Nimble Thimbles is Mary Becvar, Vice President is Linda Tyrrel, and Pro-

gram Chair is Alison Saunders. At the January meeting, three members demonstrated

techniques - string quilting, paper piecing, and applique. At the February meeting, mem-

bers are asked to bring their first quilt, their favorite quilt, or an antique quilt, with the story

behind each selection. The March meeting will be Robyn Gregg, presenting "Divine Intro-

spections and Family Connections." Our opportunity quilt is complete.

Alison Saunders and Linda Tyrrel have completed mini-quilts for the silent auction. Several other members are working on mini-quilts also.

Our February Program: Kathy Delaney presents

"Do Humble Beginnings Mean a Humble End?

Kathy Delaney has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in art education from the Uni-

versity of Arizona and loves teaching quilt making techniques. She has been ab-

sorbing everything she can that is quilt related since she began in 1991.

Kathy regularly develops new workshops and classes. Kathy has also taken the

2-day seminar offered by NQA on being a quilt show judge and has had experi-

ence judging quilt shows in Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas.
