North Orissa University, Baripada The North Orissa University (NOU) was established in the year 1998 vide Government of Orissa notification No.- 32930/HE dated 13th July 1998.The University is recognized by the University Grants Commission under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of UGC Act,1956 with effect from 15.02.2000 and 21.06.2006,respecively.It is recognized by Bar Council of India and DEC,IGNOU/UGC. North Orissa University is included in the list of Association of Indian Universities and Association of Commonwealth Universities. The University is also accredited by National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore with B grade with effect from 10th January, 2011. The territorial jurisdiction of the University covers Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts of northern part of Orissa. These two districts are thickly populated with tribal population with an average of 63% inhabitants belonging to the Scheduled Tribes. There are 80 affiliated colleges, both general and professional, catering to the demand of higher education. As development depends crucially upon human capital, NOU shall act as a beacon light to this region so as to pull up the underprivileged youth to the national mainstream of art, culture, science and technology. The Honorable Governor of Orissa is the Chancellor of the University. Prof. Prafulla Kumar Mishra as the Vice Chancellor heads the University presently and the Syndicate acts as the highest executive body. About the place of the Symposium Baripada is a fascinating town in the expanse of Orissa. Being the headquarters of Mayurbhanj district, the town has all the necessary elements for a lovely holiday. In fact, a tour to Orissa would be incomplete if you don’t travel to Baripada. Located at the foothills of the Similipal mountain range, Baripada is the best place to access the whole region of Mayurbhanj. The town is also famous for Mayurbhanj ‘Chhau’, a classical dance form. Simlipal, the park of national importance, lies at a distance of just 60 km from Baripada. Approach AIR: Kolkata - 240 kms and Bhubaneswar - 270 kms RAIL: Baripada on S.E. Railway is 2 kms from the venue, Balasore on S.E. Railway - 60kms. About the Symposium International symposium FRSM is organised in different parts of India every year since 1990. Till date, these symposiums were held at Kolkata, Santiniketan, New Delhi, Varanasi, Kanpur, Lucknow, Mysore, Gwalior, Bhubaneswar, Annamalai and Thiruvananthapuram to promote research interest in these areas to researchers working in different fields like physics, mathematics, musicology, Speech Science, Linguistics, electronics and computer science. The continuation of these events would not have been possible without the active co-operation of ITC Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata, SCVRCPM-Jadavpur University,Kolkata, CDAC-Kolkata, Indian Statistical Institute, Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute, BHU, Visva Bharati University, International School of Dravidian Linguistics, IIT Kanpur, Annamalai University, Utkal University, Uttar Pradesh Technical University, IITM Gwalior, All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, Mysore and Acoustical Society of India and active participation of various research groups particularly, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Indian Institute of Science, various IITs and Indian and foreign universities and institutions. The two-day symposium on Frontiers of Research on Speech and Music (FRSM – 2016) will be held at the North Orissa University, Baripada, Orissa, during 11-12 November 2016. It will be jointly organised by North Orissa University, Baripada, Orissa and Sir C V Raman Centre for Physics and Music, Jadavpur University, Kolkata. This yearly symposium would continue to unfold novel interactions of science, technology and mathematics with the faculties of mind like expressions, impressions and feeling and ultimately lead to a paradigm of research, to unify matter and mind. Invited and some contributed papers related to speech, music and allied signal processing will be considered for presentation and publication.

Special Attraction: Sightseeing Tour to Simlipal National Park on 13th November 2016 (subject to availability and on payment of designated charges) Similipal was designated a Tiger Reserve in 1973 and covers approximately 2750 sq kms of lush tropical forest of the Chhotanagpur Plateau in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district. The Simlipal Biosphere Reserve is home to tigers and leopards amongst other wild animals, and also supports the crocodile breeding farm in Ramtirtha, Jashipur. With an amazing 1076 species of flora within the reserve, including 92 orchid varieties, Simplipal is an ideal weekend getaway for the nature lover. Baripada at 50 km is the nearest railhead from Jashipur, one of the two entry points to the Reserve Forest A special full day Simlipal Nationl Park sightseeing tour has been organised on the 13th November by the Organising Committee of FRSM-2016 for the interested participants (subject to confirmation by the Forest Department and on payment of designated Entry Fees and Transportation charges). tour via e-mail of FRSM-2016 Limited numbers of vehicle are available with the Forest

Department for the Tiger Safari. Hence participants are requested to send their confirmation at the earliest possible time

Participants will be given confirmation purely on 1st come 1st serve basis

Package charges will be nominal as per Similipal Tiger Reserve Rules and Regulations for Group Safari. Final Charges will be intimated to the interested participants after discussion with the Forest Authorities.

Call for Papers Scholars are invited to submit extended abstracts (1000 words) of original unpublished research work in the related fields by [E-mail: [email protected]] in MS Word format to Prof. A K Datta, Chairman, Organizing Committee- Frontiers of Research on Speech & Music (FRSM - 2016). The submitted abstracts will be reviewed carefully and only accepted papers will be published in the Symposium proceedings on payment of at least one registration fee.
