Frye Island News
Service VOLUME 2016, ISSUE 4 MAY 20, 2016
Manager’s Comments
Public Safety I was instructed by the Executive Committee to have Cathy Gosselin our new EMS Director bring the Island to 24/7 BLS
(one EMT) on as soon as possible. She is working on this process and I will give you updates of her progress weekly.
She is always looking for volunteers to become AVOC (ambulance volunteer on call) drivers. If you have an interest to
volunteer, please either contact Cathy direct or notify the office at the email address below.
[email protected] Marie Tedford.
MSAD#6 Our meeting for our first workshop with MSAD#6 Board and the local legislators and senators will be announced after the
June 6, 2016 meeting. Even though the local paper wrote to the meeting substance, I was asked by the Town Manager of
Standish and concurred by Jim Moses, our School Board Representative to give the courtesy of allowing the School Board
to have a window of time to first vote on the process. MSAD#6 had a more significant problem for this past week’s
meeting. We are moving in the right direction and shortly a defined plan will be announced.
MSAD#6 District Budget Meeting A District Budget Meeting will be held at Bonny Eagle Middle School, 92 Sokokis Trail, Maine at 7:00PM on May 26,
2016 for the purpose of determining the Budget Meeting articles. A Warrant posting is on the glass Bulletin Board
outside the Town Office and at the Ferry Landing Bulletin Board.
Long Beach Marina Dues for rental and equity slip fees are due by May 30th. Please be prompt on payments. The office has a large number of
potential renters for the upcoming season.
Transfer Station Saturday 05/21/2016: 10AM-6PM
Sunday 05/22/2016: 10AM-6 PM
Volunteerism at Transfer Station I am pleased to announce that Frank and Becky Limauro have volunteered to work the transfer station on Wednesdays, off
season, from 10 am – 2 pm starting on May 25th. At our meeting Saturday, there was a request for a mid-week time for
transfer station use. Only household trash will be accepted during this time frame.
Volunteer Table at Memorial Day Garden Club Sale There will also be a volunteer sign up table on Saturday May 28th for residents to sign up to become volunteers on the
Island in various capacities.
Town office hours The office will be open Tuesday thru Saturday from 9 am to 3 pm. Please take advantage of the available on-line services
to help keep the line short in the office during high season.
If you have a brand new registration for a boat, car, golf cart or trailer, please try to come during the week when the office
is not as busy. Call ahead to be sure you have all the proper documents and discuss with the office staff the possibility of
an appointment time to complete the new registrations. A new registration can take more than an hour and you may be
asked to leave copies of your documents for the registration to be completed and picked up later in the day or another day.
Memorial Weekend The office is expecting to be extremely busy during this week. There will be 3 counter lines, so please take note of the
signs posted. To make your life and ours less hectic, we request the following:
mailto:[email protected]
2
If you only need to pay taxes, or add money to your EZ Ride account, or renew your golf membership/fees, we will
have a locked drop box on the counter for you to simply drop your check into. Please be sure to put your lot number in
the memo field. You may pick up your receipt on another day if you choose.
There will be 3 lines for service at the counter.
Counter 1: ALL NEW REGISTRATIONS OF ANY TYPE, PLEASE STAND IN LINE TO SEE MARIE
TEDFORD. Counter 2: Golf Cart/Car/Trailer Renewal, Marina payments and Boat Renewals.
Counter 3: Marina payments, Boat Renewals and other miscellaneous transactions.
Ferry Ride Requirements To pay the toll on the ferry you need an E-Z Ride card, a paper ticket, an emailed ticket, or a picture of the E-Z ride card.
The ferry employees are not responsible to type in numbers or take verbal requests to use another party’s card for passage
in any situation. Please provide family, guests, and any vendors you have with one of the above tools for ferry passage.
Property tax procedure The Town of Frye Island mails out your annual property tax bills the first week of November. At the bottom of each bill
there are two remittance coupons. The first payment is due by December 31st of the year mailed. The second remittance is
due by June 30th of the following year. If you have an unpaid balance after June 30th a certified letter is mailed to your
address on file as a 30 day notice. After the lapse of an additional 30 days the liens are attached to the property in arrears.
After 17 months the property owner will receive another notification warning of foreclosure. 30 days later the subject
property will be foreclosed.
NIXLE Our NIXLE system is up and running. This system will notify all subscribers of important / emergency notices in their
selected areas via text, web, and email. The best part of this is that it is a free service to both the municipality and to
residents as well. We can initiate notices to all Islanders that subscribe to the service. However, in order to access the
notices you will be required to subscribe. You can subscribe by going to their website at www.nixle.com and following
the prompts. I would encourage everyone to subscribe to this service. It is an ideal way to be notified of issues that may
affect your time on the Island.
Code Enforcement Officer John Thompson
Office Hours Tuesday-Thursday

E911 Addresses/Mailing Addresses Please take note of your E911 address in case of emergency and provide this number when you call. There should be a
blue sign on the front of your property. The Frye Island Police distributed magnets last year for your refrigerator with your
E911 address. If there is a discrepancy please notify the office.
There is a list on the website of the E911 addresses. Go to the “Find Information” tab (top right), click “topic index”,
under the letter “E”, click on “Emergency Contact information”.
For mailing address purposes, the post office still uses your original lot number. The United States Postal Service has not
provided a new zip code to Frye Island so the mailing address will continue to be your original Lot number and street
name.
FairPoint is using the E911 addresses to locate the properties. When you call to set up your service you will need to
provide your E911 address. However, please give them your mailing address separately. If you receive your mail on Frye
Island it is your Lot number and street name.
Central Maine Power is set up based on the original Lot numbers if you already have a house on your property. They are
requesting you to call them at 800 750-4000 ext.5 to give them your E911 address to locate your property and add this to
your account. Your mailing address should still be the Lot number or the off island mailing address. To set up new service
they will locate your property using the Lot number on your deed. Once an E911 address is assigned to your new house
they would like to put this on your account.

Frye’s Leap General Store and Café 655-4256 If you were to walk in the store and saw the chaos, you would think that we are weeks from opening. But we are
currently planning on being open on Monday, May 23 with papers, coffee, muffins and other good stuff. A
miracle will need to happen between now and then but we have seen it happen before and confident that it will
happen again! Our hours for next week will be from 8:30am until 5:00pm on Monday thru Thursday. And while
we are operating the store next week, preparation in the café will continue for an opening on Friday, May
27. Everything seems to be moving in the right direction! (Although I continue to keep my fingers crossed for
good luck…).
In the store you will see some new items. We have added additional lines of clothing, including more “performance”
wear. We have expanded our selection of novelty items and toys and we are also introducing our own line of private label
food products ranging from salsas to dip seasonings. We are very excited about this! And on the beer front we are
refreshing our craft beer selection, introducing some new breweries and improving our selection of large format (16.9 oz
and larger) offerings. We encourage you to be adventurous and try something new this summer. We will also be
updating our wine selection as well. A final thing that we will be updating is our POS system. While ultimately the new
system will be a big enabler, we may have some growing pains early in the season. We ask for your patience at the
checkout!
Similar to last season, we plan on having a clearance table throughout the season. On the clearance table you will
typically find the last few items of a particular style, often in just one or two sizes. But there may be a hidden gem in
there! While not on clearance, one of the things that will be on sale Memorial Day weekend are our Frye Island
blankets. Normally priced at $99 and $159, we will have an opening weekend sale price of $79 and $129 respectively. It
could be a nice graduation present for someone you know! After Memorial Day, the blankets will revert to their normal
prices.
Enough about the store, on to the café. For those of you that are Reuben sandwich fans, we are happy to share that the
Reuben will be back on the menu! And not only will we be serving the sandwich, we will also be serving a yummy
Reuben dip. The “hot mess” appetizer, which was a hot success last year, will be back and it will also be offered with an
option of sweet potato waffle fries. How can you go wrong with waffle fries?! We will strive to innovate on the menu
this season and encourage our head chef, Therese Cihak, to be creative while continuing to produce our customer favorites
such as the BLAT, our blueberry wings and Frye Pie!
On the beer front, we are refreshing our beer selection in the café as well. We will have five new beers on draft to start
the season including a locally produced lager from Banded Horn Brewing in Biddeford. And sometime in the near future
we will also have on draft another round of our very own IPA. We will be introducing this with a new name of
“Frye’PA” since the folks at Shipyard decided to take our “Island Time IPA” name and use it on a session IPA that they
recently introduced (how dare they!!). But we expect it to be as good as better than what we brewed last year!
A final update on the café for this week. As we open the season we will start with a limited menu, increasing the menu
each week until we get to the full menu with the commencement of the high season.
To summarize our schedule in the store for the coming week will be as follows.
Monday thru Thursday 8:30am 5:00pm
Friday 8:30am 8:30pm
Saturday 8:00am 8:30pm
Sunday 8:00am 8:00pm
Monday (Memorial Day) 8:00am 6:00pm
For the café, our hours will be:
Friday 4:00pm 8:30pm
Saturday 11:30am 8:30pm
Sunday 11:30am 8:30pm
Monday (Memorial Day) 11:30am 6:00pm
We look forward to seeing you as we approach the start of the new season!
