Use of Assessment Results 2008-2009

Date Prepared: March 1, 2010 Desired Outcome #3: Achieve a high level of satisfaction on employer surveys. Target: 85% of employers surveyed will indicate satisfaction with graduates’ entry-level skills. Findings: • 31 of 145 (21%) employers responded to the survey and indicated that 95% of

appearance, better study skills, and professionalism. Updated Use of Results: • A Mock Funeral Arrangement assignment was developed to assess students’ ability

to perform funeral service functions in a professional manner and used beginning Summer 2009. Through discussions with advisory committee members, this assignment led to the development of a new course required in the major. The course, FSED-169: Funeral Directing Practicum exposes students to actual funeral service procedures under the supervision of professional staff; observation and guided discovery designed to assist students master professional competencies required when arranging funeral service functions. Additionally, the program implemented a dress code and documented this in the program’s Student Handbook.

Evidence Included: A. Master Syllabus for a new course, FSED-169: Funeral Directing Practicum,

approved December 2009. B. Funeral Service Education Program Policies and Procedures Manual revised August

2009 with information on student dress code at clinical/practicum sites (highlighted text on page 20).
