The 39th edition of the Dakar will be contested in three countries from 2 to 14 January 2017 and will link Paraguay’s city Asunción, La Paz in Bolivia and Buenos Aires in Argentina. For twelve days, the competitors will race over 9,000 km. Chmielewski claims dramatic wins

at Dolnoslaski Jan Chmielewski snatched victory in one of the most dramatic finishes of the Polish Rally Championship which took place in Dolnoslaski. The BMW driver and his co-driver, Michael Majewski, once again confirmed their ability with a new victory during this fifth round of the season. This 1st place in the OPEN 2WD strengthened their position in the overall classification. “Another successful rally!”, said Jan Chmielewski. “Everything went very smoothly on the first and at the beginning of the second day. Dolnoslaski rally has always been a very exciting motorsport event and so it was this time – an advantage of one second over my

main rival after six special stages. Technical problems on the second day caused some setbacks – we could not go full speed. We had to focus on getting over the finish line”, commented Michael Majewski. “However, the advantage we had from the first day was enough to win.” A large group of FUCHS fans came to support the team during the rally. In spite of cold, damp and dark conditions, everybody had a great time with the visit to the service station and the meeting with Jan which compensated for the inconvenient weather conditions.

Dramatic finish in South Wales FUCHS sponsored Ryan Cooke took victory at a dramatic final round at the Britpart MSA British Cross Country Championship at Walters, South Wales, with Martin Gould wrapping up the title win. With four wins already this season Gould required one more finish in his Buxton 4x4 Rivet to take the championship crown. His weekend got off to a bad start when his car stopped on the recce* lap with an alternator problem, and he suffered further difficulties on run, one with a faulty clutch master cylinder. Meanwhile Justin Birchall, who was in line to win the championship if Gould failed to finish, was forced out of the event with a damaged engine. Colin Gould, in his Clio V8, led the BCCC crews throughout day one with Cooke taking his Milner LRM-1 to second ahead of Richard Coleby’s Polaris. A broken ball joint ended Colin’s hopes of victory on day two and Cooke continued to show consistent pace to take the win. “I’m really chuffed with the victory”, said Cooke. “It’s been a long time coming and it’s taken a lot of hard work by everyone involved in the team. It was a great event and other than a driveshaft problem, the car has been trouble-free. Consistency has paid off and, for once, lady luck was on our side. I’d like to thank everyone involved in putting the events on, and all my team. I’d also like to thank FUCHS, Land Rover and Paintstore of Leamington who have supported me through thick and thin.”

Bogie nets top twenty

on Rally GB

FUCHS-backed motorsport rally team CA1 Sport were delighted when their up-and-coming driver David Bogie finished 18th overall on the Dayinsure Rally GB in October. The tough three-day event had a ceremonial start in Chester leading to a punishing schedule of 22 stages spread over the next three days throughout Wales and into England before finally finishing with the Brenig 2 Power Stage. As well as the works rally teams, Bogie and co-driver Kevin Rae in the CA1 Sport run Skoda Fabia R5 also had to contend with leading WRC 2 international challengers in their class. Having started confidently on Friday before smashing into a rock which had been pulled into the middle of the road, they then bent a steering arm, which lead to retirement. A fast pace on the Saturday and Sunday stages meant that Bogie was able to steadily climb the leader board to finish a creditable 18th overall and an equally impressive 9th in the WRC2 standings. As well as being the penultimate round of the World Rally Championship, the event was also the final round of the British Championship. After a promising start in Wales, a crash on the Pirelli and radiator woes in the Scottish rally ended any hopes of a top 3 finish in the championship – he ended the year in 7th place.

5 Times Champion – first time ever! Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne claimed the 2016 MCE British Superbike Championship title in dramatic style at Brands Hatch when he overcame the difficult autumnal conditions to win his fifth British Superbike Championship title – something that had never been done before. Byrne adds a new victory to the titles won in 2003, 2008, 2012 and 2014. This result allowed Paul Bird’s Penrith-based team to take their fifth BSB title. Adding Shakey’s four to Steve Hislop’s one in 2002 thus allowed them to become the most successful team in the history of the championship. Byrne continues to set the benchmark as the most successful rider in the championship’s 20-year history, celebrating an incredible five titles, claiming 77 race victories and scoring a further 96 podium finishes. “I must admit, it’s a strange feeling to have won the championship with a 6th place finish but to do so with a new manufacturer is a massive achievement for both myself and the team”, said Byrne.

Paul Bird, team owner explained: “To win our fifth title and become the most successful team ever in BSB means a lot to us especially with Ducati coming back with us after a long time away. It’s hard to find the words at present to describe just what we’ve achieved and for once I’m speechless! Conditions were difficult all weekend but you just have to deal with them and ‘Shakey’ obviously showed his class once more. He knew what he needed to do, didn’t panic and delivered exactly what he had to. Glenn had a late season flurry of results and got his confidence back so it’s good to see him have a solid debut season in BSB.” Stop Press : Just a couple of weeks after he clinched the 2016 title Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne has signed a two-year deal to continue with Paul Bird Motorsport and Be Wiser Ducati. Byrne has committed his short-term future to the Penrith-based squad which will see him contest both the 2017 and 2018 British Superbike Championship seasons with long-term friend and team boss Paul Bird. Strong FUCHS finish for Rallycross The final round of the British Rallycross Championship and the British Rallycross Grand-Prix were held at Croft and Bellerby Motorsport team were poised to give a strong showing to finish their season. Drew Bellerby started strong with a 5th place finish in Q1 before dropping to 8th and 9th in Q2 and Q3 respectively. Drew then found herself comfortably in 3rd position in the Semi-Final until her clutch failed, forcing her to retire, missing out on the final. The result meant that Drew sat 7th overall in the Suzuki Swift British Rallycross Championship, missing out on 6th place by an agonizing single point. Paige Bellerby romped home in 1st place in each of her three qualifiers before she was forced to retire in the Semi-Final. With a broken drive shaft Paige was gutted to end her season without a final but despite her bad luck, received the Driver of the Day award and finished 3rd overall in the Super-National British Rallycross Championship. It was a long weekend and up and down throughout but we got the job done and being champions is all that matters. A big thank you to all our sponsors and roll on 2017 where we’ll be looking to make it three in a row”, said Ricky Stevens.

De Rosa and the Althea BMW team

secure the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup

title at Jerez! The Althea BMW Racing team and rider Raffaele De Rosa triumphed at the Spanish circuit of Jerez de la Frontera with the 5th position in the race, they have gained the title of the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup with their BMW S 1000 RR. This is the first title win for the Neapolitan rider and the second Stock title for the Italian team after the one scored in 2011. The rider sponsored by FUCHS LUBRIFICANTI S.P.A. for the eight races of the season claimed two wins, three further podium finishes and concluded the season with 115 points to Mercado’s 111 – his toughest rival for the title. “I am so grateful for the help of the team who I’ve worked for two years now. To be honest, the race wasn’t easy. I’m sorry about what happened to Tati (a great competitor). When I saw he was out, it unnerved me a little, it was so unexpected; I had to change my race strategy. I definitely lapped a little slower than usual, but I was tense and of course did not want to make any mistakes. I’ve been working towards this for several years and so I am extremely happy that the result has arrived after all our effort”, said Raffaele De Rosa.
