As an official New York Energy Week event, this forum will provide insights from and discussions with renowned thought leaders from institutions in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors. Industry experts, including those from NYSERDA and Google, will convene at The Newman Real Estate Institute to offer their diverse and valuable viewpoints on energy retrofit solutions and financing issues in New York’s commercial real estate market, widening the scope of the discussion to include the overall built environment comprising retail, educational, government, multi-family, office and other facilities.

Top industry leaders will discuss the four elements that are essential to scaling efficiency:

• Information/Knowledge: How can modern design and analytical tools improve energy asset management?

• Technology: How can recent progress on several key technological fronts be factored into successful energy asset management?

• Financing: What new trends in project financing and government funding can facilitate this effort?

• Execution: What are the challenges to, and solutions for, implementing sustainable, efficient energy asset management?

Topics within these broader categories will include integrated retrofits, sustainability reporting, evolving financing mechanisms and performance assurance methods that have spawned a revolution in New York City’s built environment. Specific areas of focus will cover retrofitting existing buildings to enhance long-term value, financing energy efficiency improvements for a quicker payback, the purpose of sustainability reporting and transparency, creative energy solutions that enhance asset values, energy efficiency technologies that present a high rate of return with minimized risk to investors, and market trends driving the growth toward higher renewable energy integration in New York’s built environment.

Heralded as “the dawn of a new age of innovation in energy” by NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg, New York Energy Week is the first truly cross-sector platform bringing together leaders and decision-makers in the energy industry to foster collaboration, investment and long-term partnerships. Each day of Energy Week will be marked by events held citywide to raise awareness on energy-related issues. The Newman Real Estate Institute is a founding academic entity in this important initiative.
