For all the saints, who from their labors rest, who thee by faith before the world confessed,

thy Name, O Jesus, be forever blessed. Alleluia, Alleluia!

Alleluia, Alleluia!

O may thy soldiers, faithful, true, and bold, fight as the saints who nobly fought of old,

and win, with them, the victor's crown of gold. Alleluia, Alleluia!

O blest communion, fellowship divine! We feebly struggle, they in glory shine yet all are one in thee, for all are thine.

Alleluia, Alleluia!

And when the strife is fierce, the warfare long, steals on the ear the distant triumph song,

and hearts are brave, again, and arms are strong. Alleluia, Alleluia!

24 Pentecost – November 7, 2021 2

The golden evening brightens in the west; soon, soon to faithful warriors cometh rest;

sweet is the calm of paradise the blest. Alleluia, Alleluia!

But lo! there breaks a yet more glorious day; the saints triumphant rise in bright array;

the King of glory passes on his way. Alleluia, Alleluia!

From earth's wide bounds, from ocean's farthest coast, through gates of pearl streams in the countless host,

singing to Father, Son, and Holy Ghost: Alleluia, Alleluia!

The Collect of the Day Celebrant The Lord be with you. People And also with you. Let us pray.

Almighty God, you have knit together your elect in one communion and fellowship in the mystical body of your Son Christ our Lord: Give us grace so to follow your blessed saints in all virtuous and godly living, that we may come to those ineffable joys that you have prepared for those who truly love you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen. First Reading: Isaiah 25:6-9 On this mountain the LORD of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wines, of rich food filled with marrow, of well-aged wines strained clear. And he will destroy on this mountain the shroud that is cast over all peoples, the sheet that is spread over all nations; he will swallow up death forever. Then the Lord GOD will wipe away the tears from all faces, and the disgrace of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the LORD has spoken. It will be said on that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, so that he might save us. This is the LORD for whom we have waited; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation. Reader The word of the Lord. People Thanks be to God.

Psalm 24 1 The earth is the LORD's and all that is in it, *

the world and all who dwell therein. 2 For it is he who founded it upon the seas *

and made it firm upon the rivers of the deep. 3 "Who can ascend the hill of the LORD? " *

and who can stand in his holy place?" 4 "Those who have clean hands and a pure heart, *

who have not pledged themselves to falsehood, nor sworn by what is a fraud.

5 They shall receive a blessing from the LORD * and a just reward from the God of their salvation."

6 Such is the generation of those who seek him, * of those who seek your face, O God of Jacob.

7 Lift up your heads, O gates; lift them high, O everlasting doors; * and the King of glory shall come in.

8 "Who is this King of glory?" * "The LORD, strong and mighty, the LORD, mighty in battle."

Page 4: Fugue in E-Flat (“St. Anne”) J.S. Bach

24 Pentecost – November 7, 2021 4

9 Lift up your heads, O gates; lift them high, O everlasting doors; * and the King of glory shall come in.

10 "Who is he, this King of glory?" * "The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory."

Second Reading: Revelation 21:1-6a I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them as their God; they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them; he will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away." And the one who was seated on the throne said, "See, I am making all things new." Also he said, "Write this, for these words are trustworthy and true." Then he said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end." Reader The word of the Lord. People Thanks be to God.

Gradual Hymn Let saints on earth in concert sing Hymnal 526

Let saints on earth in concert sing

with those who work is done; for all the servants of our King in heaven and earth are one.

One family, we dwell in him, one Church, above, beneath,

though now divided by the stream, the narrow stream of death.

One army of the living God, to his command we bow;

part of the host have crossed the flood, and part are crossing now.

E'en now by faith we join our hands with those that went before,

and greet the ever-living bands on the eternal shore.

Jesus, be thou our constant Guide; then, when the word is given,

bid Jordan's narrow stream divide, and bring us safe to heaven.

The Gospel: John 11:32-44

Deacon The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to St. John. People Glory to you, Lord Christ.

When Mary came where Jesus was and saw him, she knelt at his feet and said to him, "Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died." When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her also weeping, he was greatly disturbed in spirit and deeply moved. He said, "Where have you laid him?" They said to him, "Lord, come and see." Jesus began to weep. So the Jews said, "See how he loved him!" But some of them said, "Could not he who opened the eyes of the blind man have kept this man from dying?" Then Jesus, again greatly disturbed, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone was lying against it. Jesus said, "Take away the stone." Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, "Lord, already there is a stench because he has been dead four days." Jesus said to her, "Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?" So they took away the stone. And Jesus looked upward and said, "Father, I thank you for having heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I have said this for the sake of the crowd standing here, so that they may believe that you sent me." When he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out!" The dead man came out, his hands and feet bound with strips of cloth, and his face wrapped in a cloth. Jesus said to them, "Unbind him, and let him go."

Anthem When the saints go marching in John Rutter

Glory, glory Hallelujah, the Lord is marching on. Oh, when the saints go marching in, Oh, when the saints go marching in

Oh Lord I want to be in that number When the saints go marching in.

And when the revelation comes, and when the revelation comes, Oh Lord I want to be in that number when the revelation comes.

Oh when the new world is revealed, oh when the new world is revealed, Oh Lord I want to be in that number when the new world is revealed.

Oh when they gather round the throne, oh when they gather round the throne,

Oh Lord I want to be in that number when they gather round the throne.

Hallelujah, brothers, Hallelujah, sisters! Hear the music going round and around, While the saints go marching up into glory, Oh, hear those angel trumpets sound!

And when they crown him King of Kings, and when they crown him King of Kings: Oh Lord I want to be in that number when they crown him King of Kings.

And when the sun no more will shine, and when the sun no more will shine:

Oh Lord I want to be in that number when the sun no more will shine.

And when the sun has turned to blood, and when the sun has turned to blood, Oh Lord I want to be in that number when the sun has turned to blood.

And on that hallelujah day, and on that hallelujah day,

Oh Lord I want to be in that number on that hallelujah day.

Oh, when the saints go marching in, Oh, when the saints go marching in Oh Lord I want to be in that number When the saints go marching in!

Offertory Hymn Ye holy angels bright Hymnal 625, v1-2

Ye holy angels bright, who wait at God's right hand, or through the realms of light fly at your Lord's command,

assist our song, for else the theme

too high doth seem for mortal tongue.

Ye blessed souls at rest, who ran this earthly race

and now, from sin released, behold your Savior's face,

his praises sound, as in his sight

with sweet delight ye do abound.

The Great Thanksgiving Eucharistic Prayer B

Celebrant The Lord be with you. People And also with you. Celebrant Lift up your hearts. People We lift them to the Lord. Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People It is right to give God thanks and praise.

It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and every- where to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. Proper preface Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:

Page 12: Fugue in E-Flat (“St. Anne”) J.S. Bach

24 Pentecost – November 7, 2021 12

We give thanks to you, O God, for the goodness and love which you have made known to us in creation; in the calling of Israel to be your people; in your Word spoken through the prophets; and above all in the Word made flesh, Jesus, your Son. For in these last days you sent him to be incarnate from the Virgin Mary, to be the Savior and Redeemer of the world. In him, you have delivered us from evil, and made us worthy to stand before you. In him, you have brought us out of error into truth, out of sin into righteousness, out of death into life. On the night before he died for us, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, "Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me." After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, "Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me." Therefore, according to his command, O Father, We remember his death, We proclaim his resurrection, We await his coming in glory; And we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, O Lord of all; presenting to you, from your creation, this bread and this wine. We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts that they may be the Sacrament of the Body of Christ and his Blood of the new Covenant. Unite us to your Son in his sacrifice, that we may be acceptable through him, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit. In the fullness of time, put all things in subjection under your Christ, and bring us to that heavenly country where, with all your saints, we may enter the everlasting heritage of your sons and daughters; through Jesus Christ our Lord, the firstborn of all creation, the head of the Church, and the author of our salvation. By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever. AMEN.

And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say,

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Spiritual Communion for those worshiping with us from home (in place of the St. Alphonsus) The celebrant says Spiritual Communion is an ancient practice of the church. It is our desire to receive Jesus in the Sacrament of Holy Communion, so even though we may not receive the presence of Christ physically, we may receive Christ spiritually. The Church offers us a prayer for Spiritual communion.

The deacon says, Let us pray together: Blessed Jesus, I believe that we are fed with the spiritual food of your Body and Blood. Since I cannot receive You sacramentally today, I now desire to receive you into my soul. Unite my heart with those of my community gathered to offer the sacrifice of thanksgiving and make us all one with you. May this spiritual communion strengthen my faith and grant me confidence in your loving care now and forever. Amen.

The Breaking of the Bread

Celebrant Alleluia. Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us; People Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia.

The Gifts of God for the People of God. Take them in remembrance that Christ died for you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith, with thanksgiving.

Communion Hymn Jerusalem, my happy home Hymnal 620

Jerusalem, my happy home, when shall I come to thee?

There David stands with harp in hand as master of the choir:

ten thousand times would one be blest who might this music hear.

Our Lady sings Magnificat with tune surpassing sweet,

and blessed martyrs' harmony doth ring in every street.

Jerusalem, Jerusalem, God grant that I may see

thine endless joy, and of the same partaker ever be!

Communion Hymn I sing a song of the saints of God Hymnal 293

I sing a song of the saints of God, patient and brave and true,

who toiled and fought and lived and died for the Lord they loved and knew.

And one was a doctor, and one was a queen, and one was a shepherdess on the green:

they were all of them saints of God--and I mean, God helping, to be one too.

They loved their Lord so dear, so dear,

and his love made them strong; and they followed the right, for Jesus' sake,

the whole of their good lives long. And one was a soldier, and one was a priest,

and one was slain by a fierce wild beast: and there's not any reason, no, not the least

why I shouldn't be one too.

They lived not only in ages past, there are hundreds of thousands still;

the world is bright with the joyous saints who love to do Jesus' will.

You can meet them in school, or in lanes, or at sea, in church, or in trains, or in shops, or at tea;

for the saints of God are just folk like me, and I mean to be one too.
