Fukushima Prefecture Training Camp Guidebook
Fukushima Prefecture
FUKUSHIMA
A Word from the Governor of Fukushima Messages of Support
On behalf of the people of Fukushima, I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for the great deal of support and cooperation from people across the globe since the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11th, 2011.
Presently, Fukushima is working thoroughly to prepare the infrastructure and support systems necessary to accommodate training camps for future international competitions namely the 2019 Rugby World Cup, and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
We will welcome all athletes with open arms, and offer them our full support by providing the perfect conditions for them to train in comfort through Fukushima’s comprehensive training facilities and unparalleled relaxing natural environment.
Choosing “Fukushima” is the first step towards glory.See you again in Fukushima.
I’d like athletes from around the world to give children in Fukushima dreams. It is true that Fukushima Prefecture still faces some problems remaining in the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. However, I now feel significant improvements have been made in addressing these problems thanks to progressive thinking and positive actions taken by the residents of Fukushima and so many other people. The warm hospitality and superb nature we experienced during the 2012 Special Olympics held in Fukushima left a deep impression on us. I hope athletes from across the world will visit Fukushima and give children hope and dreams on the occasion of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics.
I’d like as many people as possible to visit Fukushima and enjoy its attractions. In the years following the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, we suffered an endless stream of bad news. Amid such circumstances, I devoted my energy towards training myself for the Sochi 2014 Paralympics, hoping to deliver good tidings to my homeland, Fukushima. In the world there still seem to be those who even now think Fukushima is as dangerous a place to visit or live as in the days immediately after the nuclear power plant accident. This is simply not true. With the exception of only a few areas, Fukushima today is a safe place, where local people are living normal daily lives exactly the same way as they used to in the pre-disaster days. At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics, I hope many people visit to experience Fukushima firsthand and come to understand that Fukushima is now safe and sound.
I’d like to contribute to the recovery of Fukushima, through the power of sport. J-Village, the national football training center in Fukushima Prefecture, is currently being redeveloped in preparation for the 2019 Rugby World Cup and the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics. I’d like every world athlete to know that it is just one of the many wonderful sports facilities in Fukushima. I hope for the speedy recovery of my hometown, Fukushima, through the power of sport.

5 Reasons Fukushima is the Perfect Place to Train
For example, travelling between Koriyama in central Fukushima Prefecture and Tokyo is a simple journey and only takes about 1 hr 20 min by Shinkansen bullet train or 2 hr 30 min by car.
Fukushima has three main areas that differ in elevation and climate so you can choose a training environment that suits your needs: the Aizu Region, ideal for quiet, altitude training and long-distance running; the Naka-dori Region with many fine and accessible cities plus many advanced facilities; and the Hama-dori Region which borders the Pacific Ocean and is relatively cool and comfortable even in summer.
Hama-dori Region Iwaki City Office 7.80m
Naka-dori Region
Fukushima City Office 65.68m

Each region of Fukushima Prefecture has full-service general hospitals (such as Fukushima Medical University Hospital) with the ability to respond quickly to any injuries or accidents related to sports activities. In addition, the public Fujita General Hospital has expert sports doctors, who are willing to care for and support all athletes in terms of medical science.
In order to assure the safety of Fukushima residents as well as visitors, we have installed at key locations 628 monitoring posts prefecture-wide to measure air dose rates. We have also set up as many as 3,102 real-time dosimeters at schools, nursery centers and parks.
(As of April 1, 2016)
Since the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011, the prefectural administration, producers and distributors have joined forces to conduct inspections of agricultural, forestry and marine products produced in Fukushima Prefecture, allowing only safety-confirmed products to be shipped and utilized.
Topsoil is scraped off of unplowed fields to remove any radioactive residue.
Each bag of rice is thoroughly inspected with cesium level monitoring equipment.
All food producing centers confirm their food safety via sample inspection.
Fukushima Prefecture ranks 4th in Japan for its number of hot springs. Perfect for refreshing in after training, hot springs are in close proximity to the training centers. And with sake said to be the best in the nation, an array of local cuisine and seasonal fruit as well as warm hospitality, Fukushima can provide athletes time to relax.
Travel easily to Tokyo with our excellent transport network! Training environments to suit any need!
Access to top medical support!
Constant monitoring of air radiation levels!
Hot springs and cuisine to refresh the body and soul!
Thorough food inspection is conducted!
