Comprehensive Programs
for People with
Intellectual Disability
At One Step Beyond our
mission is to provide responsive, progressive, and
dynamic programs to empower individuals with Intellectual Disabilities to
realize their dreams of optimal independence,
meaningful employment, significant social
relationships, and full participation in our
community.
We Really Go One Step Beyond
At One Step Beyond, our vision is a world in which people with Intellectual
Disability are fully included in all areas in our
community and are recognized for their
potential, their talent, and their contribution to society.
Our VisionOur Mission
Culinary Arts Training At the One Step Beyond Culinary
Training Program, our students work and cook in both a commercial
and home-style kitchen to learn basic food preparation, kitchen
safety, table service, and knowledge in healthy nutrition.
Employment Programs We teach excellence in simple tasks,
mature workplace behavior, and effective communication with co-
workers and supervisors. Participants are then able to utilize
these skills in the community through meaningful volunteer work
or paid employment.
Life Skills Programs Through our program curriculum and activities, we emphasize functional academics, household management, community resource utilization, socialization, and community service projects, while fostering an environment that is safe and friendly.
We Offer A Variety of Comprehensive Services…
Health and Fitness Programs
We strive to integrate physical activity and nutritional coaching throughout each day. One Step Beyond also provides activities to specifically target goals related to fitness and health such as Special Olympics, discounted gym memberships, and personally fit coaching to help individuals reach their fitness goals.
Performing Arts Programs
Participants at One Step Beyond enjoy an active day that includes a dance program, art and ceramics
studio, music studio, drama classes, and performance opportunities
throughout the year.
Parent and Guardian Support
One Step Beyond provides many resources and referrals dedicated to
aiding parents with children who have Intellectual Disability. These resources include information on
Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Guardianship and Powers of
Attorney, support services available through the Department of
Economic Security Division of Developmental Disability (DES/DDD), Vocational Rehabilitative
Services (VR), and Arizona Health Care Cost Containment Services
(AHCCCS).
Just like anyone else, people with Intellectual Disability strive for a life of fulfillment. They want to live as independently as they can through meaningful employment, significant social relationships, and full
inclusion in their communities. When given the opportunity, their abilities begin to shine and we all begin to recognize the unique talents these adults can contribute to our communities.
