Winchester Mystery House is a mansion with a remarkable history.
Sarah Winchester, heiress of the Winchester Rifle fortune, moved
from Connecticut to San Jose in 1884 and bought a small
farmhouse. Convinced by a medium that its expansion would
exorcise the spirits of those killed by the rifle, she kept builders
laboring on the house 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for 38 years,
until her death in 1922. The result is a bizarre complex of 160
rooms, including stairs that lead nowhere and windows set into
floors.

Here are some guidelines to ensure that your experience is a
pleasant one:
Do not wear your badge when leaving the hotel on your own
time (e.g. dining out). This marks you as an out-of-towner. Carry
your wallet and purse carefully. Use a taxi service whenever
possible. Try to go out at night with others.
Do not leave valuables in your hotel room—on your desk,
nightstand, in drawers or on the dresser. If you believe that
something is missing from your hotel room, please contact hotel
security immediately.
Be sure to familiarize yourself with the hotel exits in the
common areas of the hotel, as well as on your guest room floor.
Review the recommended safety procedures that are posted in
your room in case of an emergency.
Contact hotel security if any serious health problem arises or if
you are in need of a physician.
If you lose your room key, please be sure to bring a photo ID to
the front desk in order to receive a replacement.
Do not give strangers your hotel room number and do not
announce your room number on your guestroom voice mail if
available.
Carry any special medical information with you at all times.
