• You must apply as applicants are not automatically

Working and Studying
• Almost half of all postgraduate students study
part time (HESA figures)
• Many institutions recommend a limit of 10 to 15

• Normally 3500 characters (approximately 500 words)
• Explain why you think that you are a particularly suitable
candidate for this scholarship and why you wish to pursue your
studies at the University of Edinburgh
• Some scholarships ask for “Specific information to include
within your personal statement” – pay attention to this
• Personal statement submitted for admission purposes is made
available to scholarship selection panels

first
• Make multiple applications for study if considering more
than one option
• Request references well in advance
• Start looking for funding early and keep checking on a
regular basis
• Pay careful attention to closing dates
• Spend time putting together your funding application
