FUTURE READY! THE THEME OF the BFW campaign at IMTEX 2013 provokes many thoughts. What is the present today was regarded as the future yesterday. Tomorrow, the moment it arrives, will cease to be the future. In fact, future is the very next nano-second about to enter your life! Throughout our lives we constantly march into the future. The more turbulent the present; the more is the concern about the future. Future deserves to be respected with due preparation. Those who are Future Ready dictate the future; those who are not may get dictated by the future! Future Ready at IMTEX 2013 Syed Amjed, BFW, Bangalore Future Ready is not a mere product, a service, or an action. It goes much deeper, encompassing attitude, ideas, changes, improvements, innovations, conventions, processes, habits, communication, perception, evaluation, material resources, human resources, technology, and infrastructure as well. Whether an individual or an organisation, a society or a nation – all can make their life happier by adopting Future Ready measures. What are the Future Ready measures? Well, let us meet and discuss at the BFW stall A102 in Hall 1A and B111A in Hall 3A!

BFW Update, January - March 20132

NEW YEAR 2013 HAS ARRIVED! Just a month ago several people across the globe were worried about the end of the world, dreading December 21, 2012, as the doomsday. They stored ration, learned ways of survival, and waited for the catastrophe to break loose.

Life would be so dull if future could be predicted. The beauty of future lies in its being unfathomable. One can only conjure up possible situations, prepare, and embrace what destiny offers.

BFW, and then IMTMA, drew Vision 2020 in the later half of the last year. Visions of both BFW and IMTMA are about their global position, and the routes they would adopt toreach it.

IMTEX 2013 on January 24-30 showcases the best the machine tool industry offers globally. Connoisseurs are welcome to enjoy the show and share their frank opinion with us. BFW’s 51-year run with success has beenpossible only with your support andopinion. I look forward to you for its continuance.

With best wishes for a Happy and Prosperous 2013,

WE ARE GETTING GOOD RESPONSE and support from you for the enquiries, spares requirements and service requirements.

SOFTWARE IS CONSIDERED TO BE ‘soft’. If you hold the print of a picture in your hand, it is a hard copy. If you watch it on a screen, it is a soft copy. Even large organisations can be ‘soft’ or ‘brick and mortar’, depending upon their field of activity.

Machine tools are a curious combination of ‘soft’ and ‘brick and mortar’! The table, spindle, covers, guides, may fall in the brick and mortar category, but the controller remains the soft and essential part.

Extending the soft part, the BFW website www.bfwindia.com helps customers by displaying the price list of spare parts complete with part number, duty and tax structure. This chops off the waiting time for the quotation. Your nearest salesperson is equipped to inform the availability of the item of your choice through a companywide SAP network.

The website also hosts a softcopy of all current product literatures. These visitor-friendly copies are quick to appear on the screen at the press ofa button.

Dedicated pages are available for those interested in photographs and news items. You can also enjoy a number of video films at the BFW site.

Those wishing to exercise the grey cells will find a lot of interesting puzzles to keep them absorbed. They can also participate in the monthly contest, and contend for a prize.

The latest addition to the site is the ‘Unofficial Page on IMTEX 2013’. This page carries information usually sought by visitors – the food, the restaurants, the accommodation, prominent stall designers, other places of interest in India; apart from giving an insight into the etiquette one islikely to encounter!

BFW is also on the Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/bharatfritz.werner. It is a good forum to exchange information and find effective solutions, apart from keeping in touch.

BFW Update, January - March 20136

The Indian machine tool industry consists of large, medium, and small scale units manufacturing and trading metal-forming and metalworking machine tools, accessories, ancillary equipment, cutting tools, tooling systems, etc. Prominent units among these are membersof the Indian Machine ToolManufacturers’ Association, popularly called IMTMA.

One of the most crucial tasks of IMTMA is to ensure the Indian machine tool industry’s overall advancement and growth through increased innovation, competitiveness, technology, productivity, and quality.

IMTMA, for quite some years, has been raising concern about the increase in import of machine tools. Though India is among the top ten consumers of machine tools worldwide, it falls several notches below when it comes to production, and is positioned still many ranks

Members of IMTMA met in a conclave on November 22-25, examining the current situation, deliberating upon the SWOT of the industry, visualising the situation they would like to be in 2020, unearthing contradictions, and finalising strategic actions.

It was felt that the industry had sufficient talent, knowhow, strength and willpower to move forward at a rapid speed on a sustained basis and rise many levels higher. The vision statement adoptedat the conclave reads as below:

“We will be in (sic) the top 5 machine tool building nations by 2020 leveraging world-class R&D, infrastructure, systems and people delivering innovative solutions and services to create ‘value for customers’”.

A professor of geography should be informed better than claiming that the Niagara Falls is the largest in the world! It is not, that honour goes to the Victoria Falls. That was the reason behind my identifying the donation seeker mentioned in this column in the last issue of the BFW Update as a swindler, and terminating the interview abruptly.

The correct entry was received from Mr Sudhakar Govindaraj. Interesting responses were alsoreceived from Mr Sreenivasulu G, ConceptiaKonnect, Bangalore; and Mr A Suryanarayana Murty, Secunderabad.

As I sat down to write this piece, an item in the Bangalore edition of the Economic Times caught my eyes. The puzzle in this issue is based on that piece. A village in India received electric power for three months in 1995, after which there was a power cut. The power supply was not restored till

Name the village, and please send your response to [email protected].

the date of the newspaper edition, implying that the power cut has continued for more than seventeen years! No reason has been assigned behind the power cut, the long duration of which qualifies it for a Guinness World Record!

IF YOU ARE A REGULAR IMTEX visitor, be prepared to witness something extraordinary at the BFW stall!

You will find BFW’s direct presence in two halls –Hall 1A and Hall 3A.

The exhibits in this edition of the IMTEX are not confined to BFW’s direct product line; they include products manufactured by BFW’s associate matec Maschinenbau GmbH, and BFW’s strategic partner in India, Spinner Werkzeugmaschinenfabrik GmbH.

A matec-30 HV travelling column machining center is displayed on stall B111A in Hall 3A. This machining center meets complex machining requirements, matching specific customer needs with its tailor-made, building block concept. This large machine is exceptionally operator friendly, flexible, and supports creativity. Though highly sophisticated, it operates with standard CAD/ CAM software, simple fixtures, and standard tooling.

The TC400 and PD perform simple turning and the more demanding turn-milling operations with equal ease. The finish is comparable to that from a grinding machine.

The U5-1520 5-axis vertical machining center is a versatile piece of equipment with two separate working tables for 3-axis and 5-axis machining. A modular product, the U5-1520 is the dream machine for precise 3D machining.

The BFW display includes some latest additions in turning solutions, horizontal machining solutions, and vertical machining solutions. Many of the exhibits help you maximise productivity by combining operations in a single set-up.

We shall be very happy to know your specific interest and the schedule of visit, to ensure that you receive all the information that you want in the least possible time.
