General informationIntroductionThe F143 is a versatile temperature indicatorwith continous temperature monitoring feature.It offers the facility to set two low temperatureand two high temperature alarm values. If desired, an ignore function can be set up toallow for an incorrect temperature for a certainperiod of time. Up to four outputs are availableto transmit the alarm condition. A wide selection of options further enhance thismodels capabilities, including Intrinsic Safetyand full Modbus communication.
DisplayThe display has large 17mm (0.67”) and 8mm(0.31”) digits which displays the temperature,measuring unit and alarm values. The alarmvalues can be password protected. On-screenengineering units are easily configured from acomprehensive selection.
ConfigurationAll configuration settings are accessed via asimple operator menu which can be pass-codeprotected. Each setting is clearly indicated withan alphanumerical description, thereforeavoiding confusing abbreviations. All settingsare safely stored in EEPROM memory in theevent of sudden power failure.
Analog output signalThe actual temperature is re-transmitted withthe (0)4 - 20mA or 0 - 10V DC output signal.The output signal is updated ten times persecond with a filter function being available tosmoothen out the signal if desired. The outputvalue is user defined in relation to thetemperature, e.g. 4mA equals to -20°C and20mA equals to 250 °C. The output signal canbe passive, active or isolated where the passiveoutput type will loop power the F143 as well.
Alarm outputUp to four configurable outputs are available totransmit the alarm condition. You can have e.g.two the same low alarm outputs, one highalarm output and one "all alarms" output. Type OS offers four mechanical relay outputs.However, only two outputs are available inIntrinsically Safe aplications. Three outputs are
available in all other configurations. The outputsignals can be a passive NPN, active PNP or anisolated electro-mechanical relay.
Signal inputThe F143 does accept (0)4 - 20mA and 0 - 10Vinput signals from any type of temperaturemeasurement device. Also a two or three wirePT100 sensor can be used.
CommunicationAll process data and settings can be read andmodified manually or through the Modbuscommunication link (RS232 / RS485). Full Modbus functionality remains available forthe Intrinsically Safe version (TTL).
Hazardous areasFor hazardous area applications, this model hasbeen ATEX certified Intrinsically Safe II 1GD EEx ia IIB / IIC T4 T100°C with an allowedoperational temperature of -30°C to +70°C (-22°F to +158°F). A flame proof enclosure is alsoavailable with the rating II 2 GD EEx d IIB T5.
EnclosuresVarious types of enclosures can be selected, allATEX approved. As standard the F143 issupplied in an GRP panel mount enclosure,which can be converted to an IP67 / NEMA 4XGRP field mount enclosure by the addition of aback case. Most popular is our ruggedaluminum field mount enclosure with IP67 /NEMA 4X rating. Both European or U.S. cablegland entry threads are available.

Hazardous area applicationsThe F143-XI has been ATEX approved byKEMA for use in Intrinsically Safeapplications. It is approved according to
II 1 GD EEx ia IIB/IIC T4 T100°C for gasand dust applications with an operationaltemperature range of -30°C to +70°C (-22°F to+158°F). Besides the I.S. power supplies forthe two alarm outputs, it is allowed toconnect up to three I.S. power supplies in IIBapplications or one in IIC applications. Full functionality of the F143 remainsavailable, including two alarm outputs and 4 - 20mA output and Modbus communication(type CT). Power supply type PD-XI offers asensor supply according to the connectedpower supply voltage at terminal 1. A flameproof enclosure with rating II 2 GD EEx dIIB T5 is available as well. Please contact yoursupplier for further details.
