The positive adjective is the simple form of the adjectivewithout expressing increase or diminution of the originalquality: nice. Adjectives expressive of properties or circumstances whichcannot be increased have only the positive form; a circularroad; the chief end; an extreme measure. Use the positive form of the adjective if the comparisoncontains one of the following expressions:as as Example: Jane is as tall as John.not as as / not so as Example: John is not as tall as Arnie.

Comparative adjectives are used to clarifythe difference between 2 objects/nouns. .The comparative adjective is that form ofthe adjective which expresses increase or diminution of the quality: nicer. Comparative adjectives are used tocompare 2 nouns.
To state that one noun has more ofsomething then the 2nd noun.In the example below, "bigger" is thecomparative form of the adjective "big":

The winter is colder than the summer. The green hat is smaller than theyellow hat. Most basketball players are taller thanme.
-er is added to the end of an adjectivewith 2 syllables, if the word ends in -y.
early - earlier happy - happier crazy - crazier
I came home earlier than my sister. I am happier now than 1 year ago. My friend is crazier than me.
"more" is used for words that have 2syllables, if the word doesn't end in -y.adjectives that end in -y
honest - more honestdifficult- more difficultmodern - more modern
The policeman are more honest thancriminals.The last test was more difficult than the

Form Rule For example
Words of one syllableending in 'e'. Add -st to the end ofthe word. wide - widest
Words of one syllable,with one vowel andone consonant at the
end.
Double the consonantand add -est to theend of the word.
big - biggest
Words of one syllable,with more than onevowel or more thanone consonant at theend.
Add - est to the endof the word. high - highest
Words of two syllables,ending in 'y'.
Change 'y' to 'i', andadd -est to the end ofthe word.
happy - happiest
Words of two syllablesor more, not ending in
'y'.
Place 'the most'before the adjective.
