Lest We Forget

Last Wednesday we commemorated ANZAC day. Leftenant Colonel David Solomons (retired), from the Granville RSL sub-branch spoke to students about the ANZAC spirit.

He told his story, speaking of his uncle and father, then gave students ways they can embrace the ANZAC spirit everyday at school and home through courage, perseverance and mateship.

The Frank Ashton BEM Award for citizenship and mateship was awarded to Melissa Maharjan from 5/6J.

We also made a whole school Poppy Wall as a visible remembrance of the sacrifices soldiers made in order that Australia is a peaceful country in 2016.

Parent Power!

This week we held our P&C Annual General Meeting—to elect new office bearers for 2016. We had a record turn out and a great team of parents eager to get involved. I would like to formally thank Hanadi Qazzaz and Rachel Hails for their work in the P&C over the years. Rachel has been treasurer for almost 8 years—and we thank her for everything she has done!

ANZAC Day 1/2M has been learning about of ANZAC Day and its importance to Australia and its people.

We read the story of Simpson and Duffy by Mary Small. Simpson was in the Medical Corp in World War 1 and

he served his country by rescuing wounded soldiers. He took them back to the dressing station for medical attention on the back of a donkey called Duffy.

The class have also been learning about the significance of the red poppy. It is used when we commemorate

the sacrifice the soldiers made for their country.
