Lake To Sea Trail Bike Ride “A fantastic day out”, “Amazing” and “Always a good day” are just some of the comments from riders in this years trail bike ride organised by the Tokomairiro High School PTA, held on Saturday 30 November. This year 970 riders started from the new base behind the Otago Corrections Facility and then followed the varied terrain to the BBQ lunch spot, then some along Chrystalls Beach and then all back through forest and farm land to the base for a BBQ tea. Riders from all parts of the South Island enjoyed the food and the long 'one loop track' as opposed to a continuous loop track that many other trail rides have. The PTA are very grateful to Brian Griffin and Ross Flett who had put in many, many hours organising the track and other aspects of the ride before and after the weekend and also all the others who help make the day a success. (See full list in back of the Genesis). As Griff says, “the actual day is an unknown but everyone works together and it goes off successfully”. Milton St John attended to about four people with minor injuries of scrapes and abrasions and three people were taken to hospital with broken bones. This year $30,000 was raised for Tokomairiro High School. The money will go towards projects in the school that benefit students, such as new computers, subsidising class trips or helping individual students attend experiences such as Outward Bound. Photos from the day can be viewed on the high school website - www.tokohigh.school.nz
FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK Kia ora Toko’s got Talent was the highlight of last week. It was pleasing to see the hall full of people enjoying the show. Congratulations to all involved - the two MC’s, Jake McKay & Nicolle Vincent, those who performed on stage, those who worked backstage and those who worked the lights & sound. They all did a wonderful job, well done! Also, thanks to Miss Maley and Mr Rayner for their input into this event. The rowing event at Karapiro showed the world what can be achieved with great organisation and many people prepared to contribute in numerous ways. They had over 600 volunteers at this event. These people were prepared to work unpaid to ensure that the reputation of our country, in the field of rowing, was enhanced. The rowers themselves are excellent examples of the commitment and dedication required to achieve at the highest level. This event is another example of how small countries like New Zealand can punch above their weight on the international stage. Tena Koutou Tena Koutou

HEALTH & WELLBEING SURVEY Last week a number of our school families should have received in the mail a copy of our 2010 Health and Wellbeing questionnaire. We would be grateful if these could be completed and returned to school by Friday 12th November. If you did not receive a questionnaire, and would like to fill one out, they are available from the school office. (Thank you, Wendy Flett)

Playcentre Report Well what an exciting week the children have had at Playcentre. We started our long term goal with creating the "Nature Area". The children helped to establish pathways so that they can explore the plants and learn about responsibilities in caring for the paths and plants and also the environment. They all dug a hole then added a little compost and were so excited about their plants and how to pack the dirt around them, then water them. 20 Hours a week available. Limited spaces available so be in quick.

Lions Club of Milton The past three months have been as busy as ever, socially and with respect to giving service locally and nationally. August was Dunedin Manure day, over three hundred bags delivered to Mosgiel and Dunedin areas. In September our District Governor visited our Club. In October we manned collection tables for Pink Ribbon Day, candy floss stall at Tokoiti School Fair, sponsored Dunedin/Foveaux Harmony Concert, barbecue in wool shed, collection tables for Braille week, assisted Lake to Sea Bike Ride. November; chopping firewood, barbecue and fireworks. Two more new members welcomed to our Club and two more interested. The old coin/notes collection is going well, 7,962 coins counted so far. We will keep the tins out until Christmas. Banks and Primary Schools are collecting for us. Would be great if we could reach 10,000!! Can tabs and spectacles, lenses and frames still wanted. Collected at Milton Supermarket or give to any Lions member.
“Loving Individuals Offering Needed Service.”
Senior Citizens’ Report A good attendance at Friday’s meeting in spite of many apologies for absence. Jill Drummond from Dunedin proved again her popularity as a singer of many styles of tunes. From old standards such as “Oh How I Wish, Have I Told You Lately”, to Country Tunes, “The Shearer’s Jamboree” and her signature song, “Love in a Henhouse.” Then onto an Isla Grant hit, “An old Country Cottage.” It didn’t take any encouragement from Jill to sing along to the Patsy Riggir hit, “Sailor.” A medley followed including, “Goodnight Irene, Galway Bay and Irish Eyes.” Jill’s melodic soft voice and competent guitar accompaniment made pleasant listening. The forthcoming birthday of centenarian Lola Souness, a staunch member who seldom misses a meeting or outing, was a special occasion. Admired by all for her sparkling personality, remarkable agility and smart dress sense, Lola is a real pleasure to know. President Shirley Garbutt presented Lola with a bouquet of flowers and all our best wishes. The prince of luck Arthur Smith won the raffle. Coming Events 19th November – Woodstock Trip, bus leaves 10.30am 11th December – Mystery Trip

Residents to Rate Council’s
Performance Clutha residents have the opportunity to rate the performance of the Clutha District Council during a Resident Survey being conducted this month. The survey, which is being conducted on behalf of Council by SIT workforce at the Southern Institute of Technology, begins on Wednesday 10 November and will run for two to three weeks. Senior Policy Analyst Larissa Brown said residents will be called at random on weeknights between the hours of 5.30pm and 8.30pm. “They will be asked about a wide range of Council services, including water, roading, rubbish collection, parks and reserves, as well as the overall performance of Council. The survey is an opportunity for those contacted to express their views on the direction in which the district is heading.” The telephone survey takes about 10 minutes to complete and results are expected to be available early next year. This is the fifth year Council has conducted a Resident Survey. Results from previous years are available on the Council website www.cluthadc.govt.nz

Golf Report
Well we’re into the last round before Christmas. In last weeks match ups Michelle Shearing Beat Calder Stewart 3-1, Roxburgh Logging Vs Campbell Carpets was a draw. We didn’t have a result from Cowie Vs L J Hooker. We recently held our AGM, thanks to all those that attended. We wel-come Lawson and Larry to the com-mittee. Our main goals this year are to get the top of the building repainted and to increase the number of juniors
playing and to do some fundraising. We‘ll have a notices going out in the New Year to Tokomairiro High School. Finally a story that got missed from the Club Champs. Our president (Deb) decided a new protest was in order against her opponent’s brilliant serves. She decided she would just sit down on the court and refuse to play! Alas this protest proved futile and the brilliant serves were the winner of the day. Till next week enjoy your games.

● Carpet Cleaning – Hot Water Extraction & Dry Encapsulation Cleaning
● Upholstery Cleaning & Protection – Fabric and Leather ● Curtain Cleaning – On Site & Whilst Hanging
● Mattress Cleaning & Sanitisation – On Site ● Residential & Commercial ● Vehicle Interiors
• The latest equipment to ensure a quicker dry time. For hot water extraction, we use a truck mounted unit that gives a deeper more thorough clean with a faster dry time.
• Have your curtains cleaned on site whilst hanging.....no more trips to the dry cleaners and having to rehang yourself!
• No curtain shrinkage and dye run.
• A typical used mattress may have up to 10 million dust mites and 9 different bacteria. One dust mite can produce 100 times its own body weight in faecal matter every year.... when did you last have your mattress cleaned and sanitised?
• Leather upholstery is hand cleaned as machine cleaning tends to overheat the leather and colourfast the dye.
• We recommend upholstery; fabric and leather once cleaned, is protected to ensure longevity and guard against odour absorption. In the event of a spill, stain removal is 90% more successful when your upholstery has been protected.
• Eco Friendly and low allergenic chemicals
YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED IN THE STANDARD, SERVICE & PRICE THAT CCS WILL PROVIDE!
