Dear parents,
The End of Year examination week will begin on Saturday the 11thJune 2011. Information on the exact dates for specific subjects willfollow shortly in a letter from the school.
This examination week is testing a selection of the material that wevecovered since the midyear point of the academic year.
There will be a revision week prior to the examination week. Therevision week will start 4th June 2011. Subject teachers will give
students additional revision worksheets to complete during thoserevision lessons.
The following provides a summary of what topics can be revised athome.
Information on Arabic and other subjects should follow from theteachers of those subjects.
This booklet includes information on: English, Maths, Science, Social
Studies, Islamic Studies (in English) and I.T.

Comprehension
This subject tests the childrens understanding of texts and stories;including concepts such as fact and opinion, compare and contrast,draw conclusions, cause and effect, and character and setting.
An explanation of some of these skills can be found in Practice Book
2.2 on pages 104, 114, 124, 134, 144, and 154.
Spelling
Please revise the spelling of the following words. We will select twowords from each column and ask for them to be spelt (i.e. written)correctly, making it a total of 10 words in the test.

Creative Writing
The children will be asked to write two facts and two opinions aboutsomething. This is a skill that we have already practiced in class.
Handwriting
The children are to be assessed on their ability to write with cursive
writing. We are only looking at lower-case letters.
Take care to use the correct strokes and loops. Make sure that tall,
short and descending letters are written in the correct places.

SciencePlease revise the following selection of topics covered in units 3 and 4of the science books.
Please note that were testing the childrens oral comprehension of
the key words and concepts, not their reading abilities. The format willbe that we will read aloud a question to the children and they willthen have to select an answer from a choice which will also be readaloud to them.
To revise, I suggest that you check your child understands:
1) The meaning of the words that you find highlighted in yellow inthe colour textbook lessons;
2) The meaning of the words found in boxes in the workbookexercises.
3) He should also be able to answer the questions found in thelesson checkpoints located at the end (and sometimes in themiddle) of each lesson in the textbook.

social studies texts: the Health & Fitness books and the For A Better
World books.
For Health & Fitness the textbook, rather than the activity book,contains the key information to be revised. To revise, please checkthat your child understands and can orally explain the meaning of thewords that you find highlighted in yellow in the colour textbook andthat he can orally answer the questions that you find in the reviewbox at the end of each lesson.
In addition you can find keywords from each chapter defined in shortsentences in the glossary in pages 263-271 which may also help.
In the For A Better World books again it is the colour text book that isof more use. Some of the key terms are highlighted within thechapters. You can find keywords from the selected chapters definedin short sentences in the glossary in pages 109 115.
Some questions will have multiple choice answers. Some questions willbe matching terms to definitions. Some require the student tocomplete the missing word from sentences and some questions will befree response where the student is expected to write his own answersto questions.

I.T.Part of the I.T. exam will be theory based (i.e. answering questions) andpart will be practical (i.e. students will have to demonstrate that they
are able to perform certain tasks on the computer)
I.T. Exam DatesThe I.T. exam (theory and practical) is held during the revision week(i.e. the week 4th Jun to 8th Jun). It will take place during the studentsnormal I.T. periods of that week.
Please refer to any recent weekly planner to see which days your sonnormally has I.T.
The first period of the week will be the theory and the second thepractical. Those students who are timetabled to have two I.T. lessons inthe same day will do the exam parts together.
Here are a summary of the core skills that the students should havegrasped.
The I.T. teachers will hand out some revision worksheets during theweek starting 28th May targeting some of these skills.
