Assessment arrangement (Submission based) During this period, a submission based assessment process will be used to provide

course recommendations for new and returning* Capstone students. Please refer to the details below:

For Primary students - incoming Grade 1-6 • Two recent writing samples that are no older than two months old • Writing samples should be compositions and not "question and answer" type

Intensive course as a new or returning* Capstone student, the following would apply to your child:

G7-9 Writing Foundations

Structure and Process helps students improve the organization of their writing and the process that they use to get to a finished piece. Both of these skills are essential to any suc-cess as a writer both in school and beyond.

● Coverage of the essential structural elements of academic essays, with an introduction to creative writing as well● Emphasis on developing ideas prior to writing and outlining carefully● Practice of skills through engaging topics such a futurism, progress, and science fiction

Conventions and Polish focuses on ensuring students are familiar with the genre con-ventions teachers are looking for in academic essays. In addition to exploring writing skills, students will be challenged with texts that require them to exercise their critical thinking and employ careful analysis to come to their conclusions.

The course is designed to teach students how to tackle the more advanced essay format of the compare-contrast essay, while also expanding their vocabulary through descriptive writing. Students will receive specific feedback from both their peers as well as their instructor, thus building that editing muscle that is so important in more advanced writing.
