Biography

Galileo Galilei was an Italian physicist, mathematician, engineer, astronomer, and philosopher who played a major role in the scientific revolution. His achievements include improvements to the telescope and consequent astronomical observations and support for Copernicanism. Galileo has been called the "father of modern observational astronomy",the"father of modern physics" the "father of science", and "the Father of Modern Science".His contributions to observational astronomy include the telescopic confirmation of the phases of Venus, the discovery of the four largest satellites of Jupiter and the observation and analysis of sunspots. Galileo also worked in applied science and technology, inventing an improved military compass and other instruments.

Galileo Galilei lived in time when it was thought

that only the Bible speaks the truth about the creation of the world and the Earth is the centre

of the galaxy.He believed in God but he also looked the reality from scientific point of view.

So he created the first telescope and started studying the planets and the moon.Galilei introduced his discoveries to the roman pope and he is the first scientist who did it in scientific method and after research.Unlike the others before him who also had such ideas but unable to prove them.

Unfortunately,when Galilei told the pope of his discoveries,he was warned not to spread this to anyone or he would be blamed as heretic and punished.Then Galileo wrote about his discoveries in a book “ The Dialogue Concerning The Two Chief World Systems” but the Pope started a process against him and ordered Galilei to be arrested.Just before that he managed to hide one oh his book`s copies which was sent to Germany in order to be published.Galileo Galilie was tourchered so that he may have given up on his believes but he did not.He chose to abjure his ideas and that saved his life.

However,he was sentenced not to exit his home and he couldn`t receive any guests.Galileo Galilei died in 1642 in isolation and was buried in St. Cross Church.Still his book was published and he had many followers.The revision of Galileo’s process started in 1968 and ended in 1992. In the same year a space shuttle named “Galileo” left the Earth for Jupiter.
