    offices in New York designed by the Officeof the Supervising Architect of the TreasuryDepartment, Louis A. Simon. The building isin the Colonial Revival style and the interiorfeatures a mural by Anne Poor painted in 1941and titled “Beginning the Day.”

The school wasused from 1868 to 1948 when it was closeddue to the centralization of all Lancaster

    schools. In the 1950s and 1960s it was usedas a polling location until it was damaged byfire in 1967.

    The Liebler-Rohl Gasoline Station is a historicfilling station and Lancaster’s sole exampleof historic 20th century roadside commercialarchitecture. It is in the Tudor Revival style ofarchitecture and was operated as a gasolinestation until the 1960s. It currently operates asa seasonal ice cream shop, known as Frosty’s.

    The Miller-Mackey House is a locallydistinctive example of the Colonial Revivalstyle of architecture from the early 20thcentury. The property enjoyed a longassociation with two locally prominent familieswho were active both in medicine and in thecommercial life of the community. The Boys’and Girls’ Club has used the property as arecreational and social facility for the area’syoung people.

    CC. Newton–Hopper Village SiteElma, NY The ancient grounds were the location of aSeneca village and burial grounds more than200 years ago. Humans have lived at the sitefor approximately 4,000 years, archaeologistsbelieve. In recent times it has been a workingfarm in the Newton-Hopper family. It isbelieved that the grounds contain the burialplot of Seneca Indian Chief Big Kettle, leaderof the tribe following the death of Chief RedJacket in 1830.

    Incorporated in 1917, the Arcade & Attica

    Railroad is a short line railroad that hauls

    freight between Arcade and North Java. The

    railroad originally connected Arcade with

    Attica, however the right of way from NorthJava north to Attica was abandoned in 1957

    due to flooding on the Tonawanda Creek.

    H - Bryant Fleming House1024 Tower RoadWyoming, NY 14591Bryant Fleming House is a historic home builtin 1850 and is a vernacular Italianate-stylecottage. Another main building is a multi-purpose “playhouse” designed for large-scaleentertaining and accommodation of overnightguests. The property includes notablelandscape features that its principal owner,Bryant Fleming designed and installed after hepurchased the property about 1910.

    I - Epworth HallPerry AvenuePerry, NY 14530Epworth Hall is a historic assembly hall builtin 1892 in the Colonial Revival style. It is thelargest of three such halls on the grounds ofthe Silver Lake Institute, a Methodist-affiliatedcamp facility established in 1873.

    J - Exchange Street HistoricDistrict15-48 Exchange Street & Erie RR DepotAttica, NY 14011Exchange Street Historic District is a nationalhistoric district encompassing twelvecontributing buildings along two blocks in thevillage of Attica. They are brick and framecommercial buildings built after the fire of1877. The buildings provided service andhospitality for rail passengers and for culturaland social events for Attica’s citizens. Theyinclude the Williams Opera House (1879),Wyoming House (1878), Hotel Liberty or

    Attica Hotel (c. 1880), The Railroad Store (c.1885), Erie House (1880), Spann Block (1874),Western Hotel (1832), and Erie Depot (1879).

    Pike, NY 14130 First Free Will Baptist Church of Pike is ahistoric Baptist church built in 1881 in a LateVictorian Gothic style. A baptistry was addedin 1917 and a rear addition in 1926.

    Perry, NY 14530First Methodist Episcopal Church of Perry,now known as Perry United Methodist Church,is a historic Methodist Episcopal church.The Gothic Revival style church is home to aMethodist congregation dating to 1816.

    E. Koy Road at NY 19APortageville, NY 14536First Universalist Church of Portageville,also known as The Portageville Chapel, is ahistoric Universalist church. It has a GreekRevival style structure with Gothic and Federalelements dating to 1841.

    N - Java School No. 1

    Java School No. 1 is a historic school built inthe Italian Villa style. It was built about 1850

    and operated as a school until 1967. In 1969,the building was occupied by the local Grange

    and now also houses the Java HistoricalSociety Museum, a local history museum that

    is open by appointment.

    Wyoming, NY 14591 Middlebury Academy is a historic school,

    which was erected by the citizens of Wyomingin 1817. This Greek Revival style structure was

    originally sponsored by the Baptist Church

    until the academy became a Union Free Schoolin 1880 and operated as a school until 1912.

    It is now home to the Middlebury HistoricalSociety.

    Monument Circle Historic District is a national

    historic district which consists of 18 acresand includes a broad range of architecturally

    significant resources. It encompasses twenty-one late 19th and early 20th century civic,

    religious, and domestic properties. Highlightsinclude the Soldiers and Sailors Monument

    1843 until his death was Seth M. Gates, whoserved in the U.S. House of Representatives

    from 1838 to 1842. From the time of his

    purchase, for the next 15 years the housewas a station on the Underground Railroad,

    Gates concealing the fugitives in the cellarand attic. From 1893 to 1924, it was home to

    the Society of Village Works, a local charitable

    organization.

    national historic district consisting of 13 acresand is historically significant because of its

    association with the Silver Lake Institute, a

    Methodist affiliated camp facility established

    in 1873. The properties reflect the evolution

    of the institute from a Methodist Revivalist

    summer camp in the 1870s and 1880s to a

    cultural, educational, and religious summer

    institute in the Chautauqua tradition during

    the 1880s and 1890s, and finally to a secularsummer cottage community in the early 20th

    century. The focal point of the community

    is Burt Park and the district includes 72

    additional properties including 70 cottages.

    Feasel, the property was a 35-acre farmadjacent to a large dairy operation. Thedairy closed in the 1950s and the farmacreage was reduced to slightly over half anacre by subsequent owners responding todevelopment pressures. The property retainsits rural character largely due to a creek,plantings and a town park created on theformer dairy lands, which create a barrierbetween the development and the house.
