Galway Golf Weekly In Association With Host Club to the 2020 & 2021 Irish Amateur Open Championship

Celebrating 125 Years in 2020 Friday April 5th, 2019 Dear Member, Welcome to Galway Golf Weekly brought to you in association with INTUITY TECHNOLOGIES.

Club Lotto The winning numbers from the lotto draw on Friday March 29th were 11, 12, 27 & 28. There was no winner of the jackpot of €7,200. There was 1 match 3 winner - well done to

Mark Charles who won €50.00. This Week’s Jackpot is €7,225.

To date we have had over 50 Match 3 Winners who have come close to claiming the top prize! Be in with your chance to claim the jackpot by playing online (single week, 10 weeks, 25 weeks & annual options available) or by using the envelopes in the bar and dining room.

Reduced Green Fee Booklet – 2019 - Now Available The Club have again decided to make available the reduced green fee booklet for 2019. The same cost will apply for the coming year i.e. €100.00 for which you will receive 5 green fee vouchers. Members can purchase a maximum of 2 books each. Please note the terms and conditions attaching to their use and which are detailed on the back of each voucher. You can continue to use your 2018 vouchers until end of April, 2019.

Costello & Bobby Molloy Cups 2019 The 2019 Costello Cup draw is now posted in the rear foyer. The 2019 Bobby Molloy Cup Draw will be posted later this evening. The 1st round of each is to be played on or before Sunday April 14th next. Please note that Tee Times for the Costello Cup have been allocated over both Saturday April 13th and Sunday April 14th. Please note that due to a higher than

expected number of entries in the Costello Cup the Bobby Molloy Cup R1 matches have now been allocated tee times on Saturday April 13th. This has meant an increased number of tee times have had to be allocated to the Saturday. As in previous years R1 matches in both competitions can be played earlier by agreed arrangement and we would ask all competitors to please remove their match details (not the result) from the draw sheet in the foyer if playing their match early. This will allow other matches the flexibility to move into the freed up tee time and maximise course usage. Bookings for matches taking place in advance of the allocated tee times can be made in the usual manner online using the “Matchplay 1” & “Matchplay 2” option to hold the full line. Please note that to facilitate entrants in both competitions you may reserve tee times for R2 & R3 matches in advance of the normal 3 day booking window for casual golf. This is to facilitate members in trying to arrange matches and only applies to Rounds 2 & 3 of the competition as Round 1 tee times are pre-allocated over the 1st Saturday & Sunday of the event. These tee times can be booked via the Pro Shop who will verify that the match is slated to take place. Course rangers will be tasked to ensure that such tee time reservations take place as booked.

Best of luck to all entrants

Going For Gold – GUI Announces New Club Medal Competition The Ryder Cup course at The K Club will play host to the Finals of the inaugural GUI All-Ireland Gold Medals. With the introduction of this new competition by the Golfing Union of Ireland, club golfers will have a unique opportunity to participate at individual level in a national GUI event. Spread across three different handicap categories, the competition is open to all club members and entry is free for all affiliated golf clubs. Clubs can enter online at: https://tourentry.golfbox.dk/?cid=1897492 . The GUI All-Ireland Gold Medals consist of three stages: First, each entered club will nominate one of their singles competitions as a club qualifier. Entrants on the day will compete in one of three handicap categories – 9 and below, 10-17 or 18 and over. The best nett score in each category will qualify for the regional final. Four regional finals will be held throughout Ireland in August of 2019, with all club qualifiers playing for a place in the All-Ireland Final. The best three scores in each category in each provincial final will advance (36 golfers in all). The All-Ireland Final of the event will take place at The K Club on Tuesday 8th October 2019, with a meal and prizegiving ceremony taking place after their round. Sharon Smurfit, Director of Golf at The K Club said: “I, along with my team are honoured that The K Club is hosting the inaugural 2019 All Ireland Gold Medal Final on our Ryder Cup Course in October. We look forward to welcoming the all-Ireland finalists to what will be a thrilling end to this new competition. The Ryder Cup course has hosted many special events including the Ryder Cup in 2006 and more recently the Irish Open in 2016, so the finalists will have a challenging day here in October. We are delighted to work alongside the GUI in hosting this All Ireland Final and I wish all the competitors the very best of luck in their qualifying rounds.”

The full regulations for the competition are available to view here: https://bit.ly/2UyFRoU. The GUI All-Ireland Gold Medals are being introduced in 2019 following the support for this proposal by affiliated clubs at the Annual Delegates’ Meetings last November.

Ladies Alternate Days For Ladies Tuesday Competitions Ladies a reminder that you can now play alternate 9 Holes on the alternate day (Saturday), and as in previous years ladies can also play the 18 holes on the alternate day (Saturday), however ladies cannot compete in both competitions in any one week. For 18 Hole Competitions: If the competition format is anything other than a Stableford/Stroke competition ladies cannot play on the alternate day. If there is an Open Single Competition on a Saturday, ladies can play either in the Open Competition or the Alternate day (Saturday) but not in both.

Got News? I am happy to carry any news that will be pertinent to the club or its members so please feel free to contact me with anything you would like to see included, before 6pm on Thursdays weekly. Kind regards,

Dave Kelly General Manager
