2008 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS | 10 CONFERENCE TITLES | 8 NCAA PLAYOFFS | 57 ALL-AMERICANS SINCE ‘69 INSIDE e Game • Richmond opens its 128th season of football Saturday, Sept. 3 versus Duke in Durham, N.C. • e Spiders are looking for their third-consecutive win over the Blue Devils, having defeated them 13-0 in 2006 and 24-16 in 2009 -- those are two of the Spiders’ four wins all-time versus FBS teams. Quick Slants • Under first-year interim head coach Wayne Lineburg (pronounced LYNN-uh-burg), the University of Richmond Spiders open their 128th season of Football Saturday, September 3 at Duke. • Lineburg was named the interim head coach immediately following the resignation of Latrell Scott on August 23, 2011. Lineburg will remain as the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach in 2011. • Coming off a 6-5 season in 2010, the Spiders have recorded six-consecutive winning seasons, which is the longest streak at Richmond since seven-straight winning campaigns in the 1920s. • Richmond returns 13 starters and 49 letterwinners from last season’s injury-plagued team that started four different QBs throughout the season, yet still entered the final week of the regular-season in contention for an NCAA Playoff spot. • e Spiders enter the 2011 season ranked No. 16 (Sports Network), returning to theTop 25 after not being ranked in the final 2010 poll -- the first time Richmond hadn’t been ranked since early 2007. • Richmond boasts three members of the 2011 Preseason All-CAA Football Team in senior WR Tre Gray, junior FB Kendall Gaskins and junior K Wil Kamin. Each was a 2010 All-CAA Football selec- tion, with Gaskins earning irdTeam All-America honors from the Sports Network. • Gray was a FirstTeam All-CAA Football pick last season and enters his senior campaign needing 756 yards and 51 catches to set the respective Rich- mond career records. • Youth will be served by the Spiders in 2011 as 25 players on the preseason two-deep are redshirt sopho- more or younger. Last year, Richmond had seven true freshmen see action. • Senior QB Aaron Corp (pictured) returns for his final season of eligibility, and the transfer from USC is looking for an injury-free 2011 after suffering a season-ending knee injury last year in the fifth game at New Hampshire. Corp is regarded as one of the leading FCS signal-callers this year and was listed as one of six NFL draft “sleepers” by the Sporting News. • Richmond’s injury-plagued 2010 season was ful- ly-evident at the QB position as four different players started under center and six different Spiders threw passes -- occasionally in the Wildcat formation. • Richmond went 5-1 last season at home in its first year at E. Claiborne Robins Stadium. e Spi- ders opened the new $25 million on-campus facility after playing 81 years off campus. #16 Richmond Spiders at Duke Blue Devils WallaceWade Stadium • Durham, N.C. • 7 p.m. ET Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011 •TV: ESPN3 • Radio: ESPN 950 & e Wolf 93.1 GAME: 1 vs. INSIDE THE MATCH-UP Richmond Spiders ‘10 Record: 6-5 (4-4 CAA Football) Rank: 16 (Sports Network) Last Game: Loss at W&M, 41-3 (11/10/10) Duke Blue Devils ‘10 Record: 3-9 (1-7 ACC) Rank: n/a (Sports Network) Last Game: Loss vs. North Carolina, 24-19 (11/27/10) THE SERIES Overall Record: Duke leads 9-3 Games at Richmond, Va.: Duke leads 2-1 Games at Durham, N.C.: Duke leads 7-2 Last 5 Games In Series: Duke leads 3-2 Current Streak: Richmond 2 wins Last Meeting: Richmond 24, @Duke 16 (9/5/09) THE COACHES Richmond Wayne Lineburg (Virginia ‘96) Record at Richmond: 0-0 (1st year) Overall Record: 0-0 (1st year) Record vs. Duke: 0-0 Duke David Cutcliffe (Alabama ‘76) Record at Duke: 12-24 (4th year) Overall Record: 56-53 (11th year) Record vs. Richmond: 0-1 TELEVISION BROADCAST Network: ESPN3.com Talent: Neil Solondz (play-by-play), Jay Taylor (analyst) RADIO Spider Sports Network from IMG College Flagship: ESPN 950 AM Satellite Radio: XM Channel 192 (Duke broadcast) Talent: Bob Black (play-by-play), Jasmonn Coleman (analyst), Matt Smith (sideline), Matt Josephs (studio host) Internet: RichmondSpiders.com; espn950am.com MEDIA INFORMATION Mike DeGeorge, Dir. of Football Public Relations Cell: (804) 399-8916 Office: (804) 287-6313 Email: [email protected] Twitter: @MikeDeGeorge SOCIAL MEDIA Twitter: twitter.com/Spider_Football Twitter: twitter.com/Robins_Stadium YouTube: youtube.com/user/RichmondSpiders Facebook: Richmond Spiders Football Richmond Spiders (0-0) Date Rank Opponent TV Time/Score Sep. 3 -- at Duke ESPN3 7 p.m. Sep. 10 -- Wagner -- 6 p.m. Sep. 17 -- VMI -- 6 p.m. Sep. 24 10 New Hampshire * TV 3:30 p.m. Oct. 1 15 at James Madison * TV 3:30 p.m. Oct. 8 -- at Towson * -- 7:30 p.m. Oct. 22 -- Maine * -- 3:30 p.m. Oct. 29 25 Massachusetts * -- 1 p.m. Nov. 5 -- at Old Dominion * -- 12 p.m. Nov. 12 5 at Delaware * TV 3:30 p.m. Nov. 19 3 William & Mary * TV 12 p.m. Rank reflects Sports Network poll for that week, or current rank ESPN3 - ESPN3.com; TV - Part of CAA Football package SCHEDULES & RESULTS Duke Blue Devils (0-0) Date Rank Opponent TV Time/Score Sep. 3 -- Richmond ESPN3 7 p.m. Sep. 10 -- Stanford ESPNU 3:30 p.m. Sep. 17 -- at Boston College * ACC-N 12:30 p.m. Sep. 24 -- Tulane -- TBA Oct. 1 -- at Florida Int’l. -- 6 p.m. Oct. 15 -- Florida State * -- TBA Oct. 22 -- Wake Forest * -- TBA Oct. 29 -- Virginia Tech * -- TBA Nov. 5 -- at Miami * -- TBA Nov. 12 -- at Virginia * -- TBA Nov. 19 -- Georgia Tech * -- TBA Nov. 26 -- at North Carolina * -- TBA ESPN3 - ESPN3.com; ACC-N - ACC Network Offense Notes.................................................................. 5 Defense Notes ................................................................. 6 Roster, Pronunciations, Two-Deep ...............................8-9 Interim Head Coach Wayne Lineburg ........................... 10 Player Capsules, Career Stats & Highs......................10-13 2010 Stats ................................................................14-25
