Gamma Mu
Musings
September/October
2016
From the President’s Pen…
Notes from Nancy Happy Fall! The nights are becoming cooler and the leaves are beginning to turn. All around us are signs of change. Things are changing within our chapter, also. We held initiation at our August meeting and welcomed two new sisters, Chasity and Teresa. We will have another ceremony to initiate Kim at a later date. We also welcome
Beth back to Gamma Mu. Committees will meet at our September meeting and chart their course for this biennium. Some things will remain the same and some changes will occur. YOU have a voice in the direction of our chapter, so come and be a part of this exciting time of planning and preparation. Together we are strong. I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday! Nancy
International Convention
Andy, Carol, and Nancy attended the International Convention in Nashville. Members said you could hear a pin drop as Nancy sang at the breakfast.
August Meeting
Our meeting began with the initiation of new members:
Teresa Stansberry, Alicia Bauguess, and Chasity Arnold.
Author and storyteller, Carmen Deedy, shared
some personal stories with the chapter.
Members learned how she came from Havana,
Cuba to the United States with her family in 1963 after the Cuban Revolution. She then told
of her life growing in Decatur, Georgia. Her story was quite moving and a real treat for us.
Thank you, Barb, for inviting such a wonderful
guest to Johnson County and to our meeting.
We had a wonderful covered dish dinner
during our meeting.
September Meeting
During our September meeting we enjoyed a
wonderful meal. Thank you to the hostesses: Gay Miller,
Barb Gratsch, Leni Smith, Taffy Dugger, and Vida Bunting.
Members voted to create a Humpty Dumpty scarecrow for "Scarecrows on Main."
During the meeting, the
group decided to sell pecans
as a fundraiser.
Nancy gave a program. She
showed that members can apply for grants through the
Delta Kappa Gamma Organization. Nancy also
shared her experiences at the Creative Arts Retreat.
Committees then met to plan ways to make the
chapter better during the upcoming year.
Gamma Mu Awareness…
Gamma Mu members set up a booth at the Back-to-School Countywide inservice. Over 20 teachers expressed an interest in learning more out our chapter and organization. Thank you, Sheila Cruse and Beverly McKinney for manning our Gamma Mu booth.
Upcoming Dates and Announcements… Be sure to drive down Main Street to check
out the Gamma Mu exhibit we entered for “Scarecrows on Main” throughout the
