Graduating Seniors
Gamma Sigma Chapter of Alpha Phi International Fraternity
Fall 2009 Volume 4, Issue 2
ΑΦ Ivy Print
Homecoming 2009 was full
of juggling, circus tents, cir-
cus games and ringleaders. The
theme this year was Cirque du
Stout! We teamed up with Chi
Lambda and from the soap box
derby to the parade we gave it our
all! We won best float this year
and have for the second year in a
row. We made a cute blue and red
striped circus tent with a cut-out
lion and Blue Devil. For our soap-
box derby car we gained extra
points by painting a silly faced
clown on the front along with our
excellent driver, Martha Boehlke,
who raced us to 4th place.
Our nominees for King and Queen
this year were Jon Howard and
Kelsey Dodson-Smith. They did a
great job in all their circus activi-
ties from Jon shaking his booty to
circus music to Kelsey imperson-
ating Miss Britney Spears in her
circus video! We had a great time
competing in other events that
week as well, such as the 24 hour
couch-a-thon, comedic shows and
magicians. It was a fabulous
time and we can't wait for some
intense competition again next
year!

Letter from Director of Philanthropy
Katie McCarthy
Hi, my name is Katie McCarthy and I am the Director of Philanthropy.
We are proud to have raised $3,000 for the Alpha Phi Foundation last
semester with our 5K Walk/Run event that over 200 people attended!
This semester the chapter is working hard to plan our 3rd annual Rockin‟
Red Dress Gala. It will be held Saturday, February 27th 2010 at
UW-Stout. This year‟s gala features a silent auction filled with a variety
of fabulous prizes, a full dinner, guest speaker, and more! It will be a
great event for alumnae, family, and friends to come together for a great
cause! We are looking forward to another opportunity to raise money to
help the Foundation support women‟s cardiac care!

Future Alpha Phi? Christine (Beno)
Johnson‟s baby girl,
Hello, my name is Cait-lin Olivieri and I am the Vice President of Recruitment.
We had another very successful recruitment this fall. We recruited 11 wonderful new ladies (pictured below)! Everyone who came through thought it was a complete success! Each night of frecruitment we dressed alike and decorated the banquet room with our chosen theme. This year‟s theme was “Mad Hatter Tea Party”. Wednesday night we wore shirts that had a whimsical design and our letters displayed on the
front. Decorations for that night included brightly colored tea pots, lanterns that hung from the ceil-ing, Alpha Phi paraphernalia, streamers, flowers and lots of glitter covered the room. Thurs-day night was Philanthropy night and we decorated with our classic red, black and white decorations. Katie McCarthy, our director of Philanthropy gave a great infor-mational speech about our foun-dation and the Red Dress Gala. “Preference night” was Friday night, the final night of formal recruitment. We served a tasty selection of different appetizers,
created by our alumni, Emily Baugus. We had our traditional philanthropy ceremony, and Krista Jochum shared her story of Alpha Phi with everyone.
This year was another success because of all the girls‟ great enthusiastic attitudes. Each night was full of energy and all the girls were so approachable, and of course strong, classy and real! I am so excited for the next Vice President of Recruitment, Michelle Cromby, and am looking forward to another successful formal recruitment!

Hello Sisters,
As I write this I can‟t be-
lieve how fast this year
went! My name is Teddy
McFarlane and I served as
president for the Fall Se-
mester of 2009. During
the past year, the Gamma
Sigma Chapter of Alpha
Phi has organized very
successful philanthropy
events. I am proud to say
we raised over $3,000 in
donations for The Alpha
Phi Foundation. Amongst
our efforts we have also
had the time to enjoy sister
bonding and improve not
only as a chapter but as
individuals. We put our
game faces on for Greek
Week this past Spring,
beating out the four other
sororities on campus to
bring home the champion-
ship trophy. I have had a
great time getting to know
these girls better by serv-
ing as their President, and
would also like to extend
my congratulations to the
newly elected officers and
we are all looking forward
to what they can do for our
chapter!

She joined the Board this summer as the faculty advisor and has quickly become a valu-able resource for the chapter.
I wish you and your families a wonderful holiday season!
