    President’s Message……...

    HELLO MY FELLOW MEMBERS.

Last month we had our State Society Spring Board Meeting

and finalized the delegate list to the national convention in Ha-

waii. 6 MSSAMT members will represent our state society.

This year our state society is celebrating 60 years of existence.

Michigan is one of the first ones. We should be very proud of

    this accomplishment!

    HURRAY! HURRAY! HURRAY!

Fast approaching is our Fall Scientific Meeting in Frankenmuth; October 1-2-3, 2015. As you know, our speak-

ers are always superb. We will celebrate our diamond jubilee by giving away small items and of course have

a giant delicious cake. It would be just wonderful if all of you could join us in person celebrating this one-time

event and earning “CEC’s” by attending the lectures. We will also honor again a member whose loyalty to our

state society goes above and beyond.

Our state society magazine (The Microbe) will be available online this month. (May) Please let me know if

you also want a hard copy. My phone # 1-810-982-5651. In the next Microbe in November you will probably

    see many pictures from Hawaii.

Until we meet at the October seminar, I would like to wish

every state society member and their families a glorious

    and safe summer!

Sincerely, Sieglinde Wildie, MLT II (AMT) MSSAMT President

    District Councilor’s Message….

    Great Lakes Spring Newsletter

Great Lakes we are hoping for Spring soon. I think we have

all had our share of winter this year.

A lot of you will be having your Spring meetings in the next

few months. I hope they will all be successful. Support

your state society and your officers.

The Board and Council met in February and I will be giving

you some updates from that meeting. Our National

Meeting will be Hawaii and we are anticipating a great meeting. Members that pre register

for the National Meeting and pays for a full registration will receive an assistor fee when they

check in. For the welcome party we are asking the states to bring gift cards instead of baskets

this year. The price range is $50-$75. You will be hearing information from your State Presi-

dents or a representative about the American Kidney Fund. National Medical Lab Week will

be observed April 19-25,2015. Dental Assistant week will be recognized April 1-7, 2015. Pa-

per and Pencil exam will be finishing up by the end of the year

If I can be of assistance, do not hesitate to call me.

Editor’s Message Hello MSSAMT members and Happy Spring!

It seems we made it through another brutal winter in Michigan! I hope

everyone has been able to get out and enjoy a little warmth!

Only five weeks from now we will be meeting in Hawaii! Aloha and safe

travels to everyone that will be attending the national meeting. Please let

our state president, Sieglinde Wilde know that you will be there if you

    have not already informed her.

I am excited to be attending this national meeting as I have volunteered

to be a moderator. I have already checked off which courses I want to

attend and wish I could clone myself for a few days! I think this year will

be filled with more invaluable information. And, of course, I can’t wait to

do a little sight-seeing. Maybe I can get our president to go zip-lining with

    me?

    Onto some housekeeping items….

The cost of mailing out this newsletter keeps getting more expensive. If you have not contacted

either myself or President Wilde within the last 18 months, you will no longer be receiving a paper

copy of this newsletter. Also, photos in the print version will be extremely limited, so see our online

    version for a complete gallery!

An exciting move for MSSAMT….our website has moved and we are now included in the state

websites under the national AMT website! Don’t forget to “Like” us on Facebook, search for the

Michigan State Society of American Medical Technologists to keep up to date with the latest state

    happenings!

Have a safe and warm Summer and see you at the Fall Scientific Meeting, October 1-3 at the Ba-

    varian Inn, Frankenmuth, Michigan

    In Michigan Legislative News…….

The MSSAMT Legislative Committee is busy watching for legislative actions that impact you!

We make sure that fellow board members have a current Citizen’s Guide so that they know

who to contact and how to make an impact when

discussions impacting AMT professions are being con-

    sidered.

We are monitoring the Medicare and Medicaid budget

updates and the Substantial Growth Rate (SGR) which

regulates payments made to physicians for reimburse-

ment. We also watch the media outlets for new stories about bills and healthcare initiatives

that are being considered in Michigan.

Arguably the largest legislative action that impacted AMT and its membership this year was

the provision in the Affordable Care Act that called for licensed professionals to input in to

Electronic Medical Records. This gave Medical Assistants who are credentialed authorization

to enter orders into the EMR. Many non-certified Medical Assistants turned to AMT for

certification. The state board was happy to support these efforts. In fact, Michigan gained

    640 new members from September 2014 – April 18, 2015.

Welcome, new members! We appreciate the opportunity to serve you by keeping you

informed of any legislative initiatives that might impact you!

    Respectfully Submitted,

MSSAMT Legislative Committee Webb Gray, MT Linda Witte, MPA, RMA, CBSP
