Business & Community Spotlight:
Rural Hall Area Business Association Do you operate a local business, or know someone who does? Would you like to get more connected in the business community or work with other local businesses to grow and strengthen the Rural Hall community? Are you interested in supporting local educators?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, you should consider joining the Rural Hall Area Business Association (RHABA). You do not have to be located in Rural Hall. Monthly meetings are the second Tuesday of the month at Mayflower Seafood in
Rural Hall at 12:30 PM and first-time visitors eat free!
The August 21st meeting would be an excellent meeting to visit, as Pat Ivey (District En-gineer) with the NCDOT will be the speaker and going over the Rural Hall exit 118 bridge project, as well as Northern Beltway updates, and how this will impact the area and local businesses.
The RHABA annually hosts the RHABA Flat & Fast Race. This year they will host their 12th annual 10K/5K on Saturday, October 27, 2018. Go ahead and mark your calen-dar for this event! The race is now open for registration! To find out more information or
register go to: http:\\FlatandFastRuralHall5K10K.itsyourrace.com/
If you are interested in being a business sponsor, contact Steve Hill at 336-969-9511. 100% of proceeds goes to Rural Hall Elementary School.

Money Matters - What Your Tax Dollars Are
Doing For You? Waste Management and
Garbage & Recycling Services
The Town of Rural Hall contracts garbage and recycling services through Waste Man-agement. Tax revenue provides our residents with weekly garbage and biweekly re-cycling services. What does this look like per household? The Town currently pays $141 per household per year for these services. This breaks down to $2.71 per week per household.
Waste Management is North America’s largest provider of comprehensive waste man-agement services, largest residential recycler, and a renewable energy provider. They are invested in developing waste solutions for our changing world. Waste Management recovers the naturally occurring gas inside landfills to generate electricity, called landfill-gas-to-energy. They have also recently transitioned to natural gas trucks.
While Waste Management does work to provide a safe, sustainable environment, as well as provide the best service they can, they do make mistakes. If your garbage or recycling is missed, please contact our office and we will report it to Waste Manage-ment on your behalf. Please LEAVE your cart at the curb in the event you are missed, so Waste Management can recover your garbage or recycling. Waste Management works diligently with our office personnel to resolve issues quickly and recover missed garbage or recycling as soon as possible. Please do your part (see above) to make sure garbage and recycling services go as smooth as possible.
Waste Management was very generous in sponsoring our first movie night event at Covington Park in June, and will sponsor our upcoming movie night on Friday, August 17th. See the front page for more details!

Town Parking Ordinance - Fire Entrances, Fire Lanes, School Parking/Traffic
The Town Council recently passed and adopted a parking ordinance for the town limits, in order to protect the health and safety of our resi-dents. The ordinance addresses mul-tiple parking parameters and prohibi-tions. As kids go back to school, we would like to emphasize a few areas of the ordinance.
It shall be prohibited for any person to stop, stand or park a vehicle, ex-cept when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic, in compliance with law, or the directions of law enforce-ment personnel, emergency person-nel or other traffic-control device, within:
15 feet of the driveway entrance to any fire station and on the side of a street opposite the en-trance to any fire station within 75 feet of the entrance when properly posted,
A designated fire lane,
A lane designated for moving traffic in such a way as to ob-struct the movement of traffic in that particular lane creating a safety hazard to pedestrians or vehicular traffic or impeding the delivery of mail or passage of emergency vehicles, school bus-es and/or sanitation vehicles,
At any place where official signs or markings prohibit stopping, standing or parking,
In the opposing direction of traffic.
This ordinance allows our communi-ty policing officers to issue tickets/civil penalties for violations. A $25 penalty for each violation will be im-posed. If the penalty is not paid with-in the specified time frame, an addi-tional $50 penalty will be issued. To view the entire ordinance, visit the “Ordinances and Policies” section of our website.

Employee Spotlight
Fire Captain Brian McGlamery ran into a
familiar face at the Dairi-O on Tuesday,
July 3rd. About 10 years ago Brian ran a
call and delivered Abbey Lankford as a
baby, pictured with him here. Her mom,
Kendra, recognized Brian right away! She is
still so grateful for Brian’s help that day 10
years ago, when she could not make it to
the hospital in time. She credits Brian with
saving her and her daughter’s lives. Thank
you Brian, and all of our firefighters, for
serving our
community
and making
a difference
each and
every day!
