Winter potatoes grown indoors
Winter potatoes grown indoors
*******************************
You will need:
half barrel or large pot
potting soil enriched with manure
3-5 potatoes (sprouted for an early crop)
fork or trowel
Fill the base of the barrel or pot with a generous layer of soil,
approx. 1/4 full.
Arrange the potatoes 6 inches apart on the surface of the soil. Cover
with another layer of soil until the container is no more than half
full.
Water thoroughly after planting and continue to water whenever the
soil shows any signs of drying out. A weak fertilizer may be applied
if manure is not available.
When leaves appear and reach 4 inches in height, add another layer of
compost to cover them completely. Repeat this process until pot is
full of soil.
Continue to water regularly. The plants are ready to harvest once
they have flowered.
Dig up the plants carefully using a fork or trowel. Only dig up as
many as needed. The others will keep better if remaining in soil
until you want them.
