Winter potatoes grown indoors ******************************* You will need: half barrel or large pot potting soil enriched with manure 3-5 potatoes (sprouted for an early crop) fork or trowel Fill the base of the barrel or pot with a generous layer of soil, approx. 1/4 full. Arrange the potatoes 6 inches apart on the surface of the soil. Cover with another layer of soil until the container is no more than half full. Water thoroughly after planting and continue to water whenever the soil shows any signs of drying out. A weak fertilizer may be applied if manure is not available. When leaves appear and reach 4 inches in height, add another layer of compost to cover them completely. Repeat this process until pot is full of soil. Continue to water regularly. The plants are ready to harvest once they have flowered. Dig up the plants carefully using a fork or trowel. Only dig up as many as needed. The others will keep better if remaining in soil until you want them.
