SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER

Volume 3 / 2019

We have had an exciting week with a fun filled Halloween celebration and of course the winning of the World Cup rugby. In both cases we witnessed a community and a country coming together. As Bishop Tutu said “ we are a special country with extraordinary people, on such days as this we understand that when we pull people together the sky is the limit, when we believe in ourselves we can achieve our dreams”

In the last two months we have had both our AGM and an EGM (extraordinary general meeting) and although in both meetings there were a number of heated discussions I felt it was great that people were willing to stand up and share. Many of us listen to the story in our heads, the story we tell ourselves, which is so often not the real story. Estate living is community living and its always good to learn the facts before expressing your thoughts and feelings. I felt in both these meetings we had the opportunity to delve into the facts and people were then allowed to express their thoughts and opinions. Ultimately I hope that

people left feeling a little more enlightened and saw value in what the management team and the Board have achieved over the past year.

Dave Woollam was co-opted onto the Board as a Director, he has proved to be a great asset to the team and really got stuck into understanding much of the history to Garlington ensuring he understands all the facts before sharing his insights and opinions. Dave is a CA and will be overseeing the finances of Garlington, he will be working closely with Neville who has so kindly kept an eye on this portfolio for the past 2 years.

Our Gym/ Sports facilities committee has been formed and had their first meeting last week. Thank you to Gerald West for driving this initiative. We look forward to greater clarity on gym matters and formalizing the SLA between the Gym owners and the GHOA.

In our last Board meeting the topic of dogs was tabled and there seems to be a growing trend of people neglecting the rule of only

NEW RESTAURANT AT GARLINGTON OPENING 3RD DECEMBER 2019

Josephine’s Restaurant and Delicatessen is a family run restaurant with a strong emphasis on locally sourced, quality

ingredients. We aim to provide a high quality range of meals based around the seasons.

Our winter menu will contain lots of roasted meats and slow cooked stews while the summer menu will highlight all the

local springtime salads, seafood and light bites. As Hilton tends to be on the cooler, rainy side – our standard French classic

‘Beef Bourguignon’ will make a regular appearance on both menus.

We will be open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner – see opening times below.

Josephine’s will also have a new delicatessen which will sell freshly baked croissants, pastries, cakes and a good range of

breads all baked the traditional Italian way using a wood fired oven. The deli will also stock newspapers, some quality

cheeses, cold meats, milk and other carefully selected goods. Our deli is also home to our in-house florist ‘Blom Botanicals’

which will launch in the new year. We will be taking orders for our delicious Christmas mince pies and birthday cakes from

around the 2nd week in December.

Our staff are waiting with open arms to welcome you into our family friendly space on the 3rd December. We look forward

to cooking for our local Garlington residents as well as the public.

“The name Josephine comes from my Spanish father Joseph / José. I was then given the middle name Josephine and I’ve

carried that tradition on by also giving both our daughters the middle name Josephine. Our concept is all about a cosy,

beautiful place to meet and create happy memories over good food and wine”

Owner, Bonnie Josephine Minnaar
