INTRODUCTION
Appearance of a garment plays very important role. Toget value
for garment quality stitching is required. In stitching
seams are undivisible part of garment. To construct any kind
of
garment seams are necessary. Quality of any garment is judged
by
the quality of seam. Seam is a joint where the sequence of
stitches
unites two or more pieces of the material. (British standard
institution 1983) To get perfect seam earlier in industry the
skilled
operators are required and after lot of experience the operator
canachieve the perfect seam but now a days these seams are
joined
with the help of different types of folders and hemmers.
Which
make easier work for operator and it saves the times also
and
major advantage of these is perfect seam will be stitched.
Hemming means folding of fabric in combination of upturn
downturn to close the raw edges with or without lining. By
using
hemmers on the sewing machine operators skill get reduced andlow
skilled operator can also do the same work that is hemming.
Hemmers are specially used to make hemming to the shirt,
trousers, and also other garments hemming. The problem like
variation in the hemming width because of stretchable fabric
or
bias cut fabric. For hemming small parts such parts such as
pocket , engaging and disengaging folders is critical so,
specific
folders are used instead of engaging and disengaging
folders.Sewing is an operation that requires professional
training to acquire skills. For example, top stitching quarter
inch
from edge without any work aid may require hours or month of
practice and skill acquirement. However, use of an edge guide
or

compensating presser foot may deskill the operation
substantially &
comparatively low skilled operator will be able to sew with
consistent quality. There are many deskilling devices (folders
&
attachments) available for sewing. As most common practice to
maintain the distance
from the edge is to use the edge of the presser foot as
reference
point (for example say th of an inch), adding to it most of
the
sewing machine manufacturers provide the needle with scale
marked on it . Showing the distance from the needle point.
When one has to stitch the longer seams with precision, its
difficult
for operator to maintain the quality as he has to monitor the
edge
constantly.
The problem has been constantly addressed in the past and a
number of developments can be noticed in this area. There
are
quite a few solutions available in the market for edge guiding
right
from very basics to complex ones. The distance between seam
and
material edge is sensed and if it varies from the seam
distanceprogrammed, a warning signal is displayed and operation
is
stopped.
