Gary Tew, Principal

Attendance for February 94.87% from 96.09% in January.

Dear parents and students,

The school year is passing quickly. Spring Break is upon us.

Have we taken advantage of opportunities to make meaningful

connections with our children? Take time this month to reflect

and focus on your personal and family goals for the New Year.

Demonstrate, by example, our school motto, “Show that

Holland School PRIDE!”

Poor student attendance rates, excessive tardies and early exits

negatively affect our school from “Being the Best…”

PARENTS—we need your assistance in this area!

I have converted attendance rates to days missed:

In a 174-day school year:

Number of Holland students in each category

99% attendance= 2 days absent

37 students

95% attendance= 9 days absent

133 students

90% attendance=18 days absent

59 students

85% attendance= 26 days absent

9 students

75% attendance= 44 days absent

1 student

65% attendance= 62 days absent

1 student 55% attendance= 80 days absent - 0 students

Please do not send your child to school if they are sick. If needed, Nurse Combs, our school nurse, is available at 523-4100 to answer health questions. Let’s focus on tardies and students leaving early from school. I believe we can im-prove our school attendance rate one student at a time. With Your Child in Mind, Gary Tew - Principal Holland

Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!

A book review by Klee Bruce Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! by Mo Williams is a cautionary tale of

one bus driver’s battle against a street smart pigeon. Who will win? Will the

bus driver succeed in keeping his vehicle orderly? Or will the pigeon

overtake him and cause endless mayhem? No matter what the outcome of the

fight is, Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! is a hilariously funny story that

will become an instant family favorite.

For the last two months Holland Student Council has been raising money

for a “Maker-Space” cart by sponsoring weekly STUCO hat days during

the month of January, selling valentines during the first two weeks or

February and promoting the STUCO vending machine. Between those

three activities we raised nearly $300. In the weeks ahead STUCO will be

soliciting the insight of the classroom teachers to make sure that items

bought for the “Maker-Space” cart are beneficial for each grade level.

Thank you for supporting Holland Student Council.
