MLS (Multi Layer Steel)The Cometic MLS gasket is comprised of three layers of

Stainless Steel. Cometic uses Stainless steel for increasedstrength, it’s ability to rebound and corrosion resistance. Theouter layers of the gasket are embossed and coated on bothsides with a flouroelastomer rubber based material (Viton)designed to meet the demands of a variety of harsh sealingenvironments, load conditions and surface finishes. The center or shim layer of the gasket is comprised of anuncoated Stainless Steel layer, which can be varied toaccommodate multiple thickness requirements. The MLS gasket is ideal for both aluminum heads to cast iron blocks andaluminum heads to aluminum blocks.

Gasket Materials

The composition of MLS will also withstand the shearing forces created by aluminum heads on cast iron blocks. Nore-torque is necessary. By design the MLS gasket promotes an even torque load across the sealing surface allowing formeasurable reduced bore distortion.

Cometic Gasket’s Phuzion is the next stage in head gasket development. Phuzion is comprised of a Cometic MLS head gasketand multiple Garlock Helicoflex gas filled o-rings.

By combining the two technologies a superior combustion seal is created without machining any grooves in your block and/or head.

The gas filled o-ring portion of

Phuzion is manufactured from high strengthaerospace tubing capable of withstanding ultrahigh combustion temperatures and pressures.Additionally each ring is plated with silver toincrease the sealing level and minimizebrinelling. The silver also aids in withstandinghead to block movements without burnishingthe surfaces. The real innovation to the gasfilled o-ring though, is the gas itself. Duringthe manufacturing process the gas in the ringis sealed in at 500-600 psi at room tempera-ture. As the engine is warmed up, the gas isheated increasing the pressure inside the ringcausing it to expand. This allows the ring toseal the combustion even in the event of headliftoff.

The MLS gasket portion of Phuzion is

what gives you the ability to use the gas filled o-rings without machining any grooves inyour block and/or head. MLS head gasketsare comprised of three layers. Viton coatedembossed spring steel outer layers and a steelinner layer, which provides support andthickness to the gasket. Embossments on theMLS gasket allow for proper seal around oiland water passages.

Phuzion Requirements: Head and Deck surfaces should be within.002” of flatness and have a surface finish of50RA or finer. The compressed operatingthickness of Phuzion is .051”.
