The Chamber welcomed Gateway to Kansas Shops to Atchison with a
ceremonial ribbon cutting on Friday. Located at 504 Commercial,
Gateway to Kansas Shops includes a number of booths that sell a
variety of products. The old soda fountain is also back in

Leadership Council to conduct ‘Teens Against Bullying’
workshop
The Chamber’s Leadership Council is conducting a Teens against
Bullying Workshop, for 7th and 8th grade students, April 30, 2013,
12:30-2:15 pm at Memorial Hall. The schools participating are
Trinity Lutheran, Atchison Catholic Elementary School, and the
Atchison Middle School.
The purpose of the workshop is to educate our youth about the
seriousness of bullying behavior. Our goal is to empower and
inspire them to become advocates of bullying prevention.
The activities will consist of viewing videos and small group
discussions. The vid- eos (each approximately 3.5 minutes) were
chosen from the Pacer’s National Bullying Prevention Center
website.
Welcome Atchison Cash Saver this Friday
The Chamber has an exciting ribbon cutting event scheduled for 9
a.m. this Fri- day, April 26. Atchison Country Mart has reopened as
Atchison Cash Saver.
The local grocery store has undergone several changes, including a
new pricing structure aimed at saving shoppers money.
Join us as we cut the ribbon on this make- over at 9 a.m., April 26
at 2016 W. Hwy 59.
Marie’s Mystics to host After Hours
Get to know one of our newest Chamber members during an After Hours
event on Tuesday, May 7.
Marie’s Mystics, which offers local medium, ghost investigator and
tarot reading services, will host the After Hours from 5-7 p.m. at
the Santa Fe Depot.
Join us in welcoming Marie’s Mystics,
catching up with fellow members and enjoy- ing snacks and beverages

Full weekend Celebrating the Arts set for April 26-27
The Atchison Art Association has two events scheduled for April
26-27. Pop-Up Body Art, scheduled for April 26 in down- town
Atchison, the event features a 20 art sculptures that will pop up
all over town for the day. The Art Association describes the
event as “a traveling exhibit of public art pro- duced and
sponsored by our community that promotes social interaction and
civic dialogue through a visual message to the community.”
On Saturday, April 27, the Atchison Art Association will present
the first Open Air Fair from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the Atchison
Riverfront. The event presents a fresh ap- proach to the exchange
of ideas, innovations and creation in a European-style market on
the riverfront. The Open Air Fair will feature booths by
artists/artisans, farmer/growers and vintage and repurposed items,
along with performance art, music, classes and demon- strations
from artists.
A reminder that May 1 is the on sale date for LakeFest tickets.
This year’s concert will feature Gary Allan, Lee Brice and Lauren
Alaina. The concert is Saturday July 19th…you won’t want to miss
it! Look for more details on the 17th Annual Amelia Earhart
Festival to be announced soon.

Bunco to benefit Relay for Life
All you bunco players, don’t miss out on this exciting event that
will benefit Relay for Life. St. Mark’s Lutheran Church will host a
bunco event at 6 p.m. this Saturday, April 27, at the church’s
community center at 400 S. 6th St. Food, soft drinks and prizes
will be provided.
Get an advance ticket for a $10 donation or donate $12 at the door
to join the fun.

Personalize your margarita glass at The Artist Box
Join us for an exciting new class at The Artist Box from 6-8 p.m.

Living Shakespeare rescheduled at Riverwood Winery
Scott Cox has requested that we reschedule the Living Shakespeare
live performance. It is now scheduled for Sunday, May 5th from 2-4

Spring Book Sale at Atchison Library
Friends of Atchison Library will host at Spring Book Sale May 10-12
at Atchison Library, 401 Kansas Ave.
The sale will be held downstairs in the community room. Browse
hundreds of items for low cost: $1 hardbacks, $0.50 paperbacks and
$0.50 VHS tapes. Buy five, get one free!
There will also be a silent auction on used computer equipment and

The Community Blood Center, the provider of blood to the Atchison
Community Hospital is in need of summer blood drive sponsors.
The flu and snow has had a significant impact on our overall
collections. Unfortunately, we continue to experience a significant
decline in our collections. We need the help from all blood donors
to ensure we maintain a safe, dependable blood supply for hospital
patients.
The Community Blood Center in St. Joseph Missouri is currently
seeking church, clubs, or- ganizations, businesses, and schools to
