STAT COMPARISONFlorida’s offense has picked up steam during the early part of the 2018 season. Below is a comparison of last year’s national championship team and the current team through the first 26 games.

2017 2018 +/-Record 18-9 22-5 + 4 winsBatting Average .242 .287 + .045Runs Per Game 4.6 7.2 + 2.6Slugging Percentage .360 .497 + .137On-Base Percentage .332 .370 + .038Home Runs 19 41 + 22Earned Run Average 3.00 2.92 - .08Walks Per Game 2.85 2.85 evenStrikeouts Per Game 9.2 8.5 - 0.7Batting Average Against .242 .222 - .020

BALANCE OF POWERFlorida’s improvement in offense has been across the board. The Gators rank fifth in the SEC in total RBI (173) despite not having a single player ranked in the top 15 individuals.

Four UF players have 20+ RBI with another three racking up 15+. In addition, Deacon Liput has 11 RBI in just 13 games played (he missed the first 14 games due to team rules violation).

#FEELTHEBYRNEFlorida closer Michael Byrne has picked up where he left off last season, shutting down every opponent he has faced this season. Byrne currently has six saves; in 2017 he did not pick up his second save until March 28 -- he finished with a school record and nation’s best 19 saves last year. Byrne has 25 career saves -- tying John Pricher (1988-92) for the most career saves in Florida program history.

TAKING THE LEADOf Florida’s 22 wins this season, only twice has the winning run come after the sixth inning -- March 10 vs. Rhode Island and March 25 vs. Arkansas. With a strong bullpen and closer Michael Byrne, the Gators are 20-0 when leading after six innings.
