IworkedextensivelywithbothJohnBradleyandJanaDutyasa
fellowprosecutorinmyyearsattheDistrictAttorneyandthe
CountyAttorneyofficesandthedifferencesaresubstantial.I
havealwaysfoundJohntobeoneofthebrightestandmost
capableofprosecutorsintheentireStateofTexas,andhe
actuallyhastheawardtoproveit.
WhenIservedinthelegislature,JohnwasapartnerwithmeinhelpingcrafttheJessicasLawlegislationthatprotectsthe
mostvulnerableamongus,ourchildren.However,healso
assistedmeinmyparticipationinhelpingcraftabillthat
allowedlifewithoutparoleasachoiceinourdeathpenalty
casesinTexasforthefirsttime;notnecessarilyatoughon
crimepositiontotakehereinTexas,buttheright
position.EachandeverytimeIaskedJohntohelphewas
there.
InallmyyearsofworkingwithJohn,bothasaprosecutorand
asastaterepresentative,Icansaywithouthesitationthathe
alwayshadtheCitizensofWilliamsonCountyandtheStateof
Texasashisprimaryfocus.Thepositionshetakesonsome
issues,whiletheyaresometimescontroversial,especiallyto
criminaldefenseattorneys,Austinliberals,andtheAustin
AmericanStatesman,theyareneverpoliticallyopportunisticorhypocritical.Icannotsaythesameofhisopponent.
