The following were my responsibilities at Telkom:

I worked in the Data section where my responsibilities were the installation and maintenance of the following systems for the MDF (Main Distribution Frame), SDC (Street Distribution Frame), DP (Distribution Point) and the client’s premises:

o BRI ISDN services for Internet connection purposes, as well as for PABX purposes with DDI and DDOo Diginet/Martis line (point to point dedicated high speed data line) which included configurations such as ARM

and Frame relayo Cisco Router 1st tier installations, configurations and maintenance.o ADSL installation and configurationo VSAT for voice and/or data serviceso PABX installation specifically the OPTICON 16/32

I was involved with Telkom’s Managed Networks Projects when they became the Managed Network Supplier for businesses like ABSA, SAP, Foschini, Joshua Door Group, Shoprite/Checkers and SPAR Group.

As the primary contact for the Pietermaritzburg and Natal Midlands area, all maintenance, faults and installations with regards to Cisco routers and switches were directed to me. My responsibilities in this role included:

o Liasing with the Local Network Administrator and Service manager in order to;o Confirm communication with third party role players,o Scheduling of customer down times, ando Confirmation and scheduling of installation dates and times

I was responsible for the installation of various VSAT solutions to different corporate clients. Department of Health was one of these implementations which required VSAT being installed mainly in rural areas for the purposes of voice and data services.

I was a part of the team which installed VSAT at the ATM’s for ABSA, Standard Bank and Nedbank. My role in the team included liaising with Telkom Network Administrators, Telkom HUB (VSAT control centre) and the Client in order to arrange and confirm implementation dates, access to ATM’s and ATM downtime.
