How did you find out about GBOB?
Through Music NT
Musical Influences?
Naughty by Nature, Salt n Pepper
How would you describe your
sound?
Uniquely Central Australian hip-hop
How long have you been together?
How did you meet?
Going on 5 years. Mutual friends introduced us and we started
playing gigs together.
What are you looking forward to
most in the competition?
Exposure – the opportunity to play on the East Coast will be amazing
for getting our music out there.
How did you find your Heat? It was great! We had a lot of our
fans come and support us, so there
was a fantastic crowd response.
GBOB 2011 really hotted up in the deserts of
Alice Springs! 7 bands were ready to rock and
roll their way to the Australasian Final at Annie’s
Place. The judges on the night were Michael
Smith and Trevor Close, both of whom
represented the radio station of CAAMA (Central
Australian Aboriginal Media Association), and
Cain Gilmour, the chairperson of Music NT.
There was a diverse array of music on show,
from gnarly metal riffs to smooth hip-hop beats.
However, it was the hip-hoppers that reigned supreme, with refreshing talent Catch the Fly,
earning a spot in the Australasian Final.

ADELAIDE
Catch the Fly
Interview with “Lipsmack”
How did you find out about GBOB?
The word was going around uni and we
heard friends talking about it.
Musical Influences? 90s grunge, 80s rock
When and how did you meet?
1 ½ years, we met through mutual friends.
What are you looking forward to most
GBOB?
Networking, playing to bigger audiences
and getting out into the music scene.
How did you find your Heat?
We had a ball, it was heaps of fun!
Adelaide was the place to be as
GBOB headed over to Higher
Ground for yet another night of
thumping good original music!
A mammoth 10 bands put on a
brilliant show for our audience
and our esteemed judging
panel. It was Radio Adelaide’s
Chris Brunner, local muso
Angelo Pashal and CEO of Deep
Blue Studios, Reid Jones, who
chose the bands that qualified
for the next stage, the South
Australian Regional Final. It
turned out that girl power ruled
as the rock chicks from
Lipsmack earned themselves
first place, with Fell at 10,
Heston Drop, Cortisol, The
Machines and Michaela
Burger all making it through.

included Angelo Pashal (3rd from

We had played a few gigs for Burgess Bookings Playing on great stages with great sound and
Agency, and they invited us to play. lights, in front of the music industry.
Musical Influences? How did you find your Heat? Red Hot Chilli Peppers, AC/DC, Arctic Monkeys. Very professional – the gig went off without a hitch, and Greg the soundie was amazing. How would you describe your sound? Riffy, funky, catchy rock. Classic rock with a twist.
What’s the band history…how did you meet? ****** We have been together as Hiddenace for just over a year now. Three of us , Matt Dalcol (vocals), Matt Stalgis (guitarist) and Josh O'Brien (bassist) went to the same school and formed our first band, then Grant Molloy (drummer) joined us a year ago.
The representative from Pt Hedland in this
year’s Australasian National Final will be a
rocking band called Still Waiting. Band
member, Brad Holder, has experienced the
big Australasian Final before, having
qualified with another band in 2008. Hoping
to do one better and get through to the
World Final this time, Brad says ‘Being a
part of the National Final in 2008 was an
incredible experience, especially for a
band from such an isolated place in the
middle of nowhere. It really helped us gain
exposure and bridged our connection from
our local scene to a national level. I’m
stoked to have gotten this opportunity for a
second time.’
SOUTH SYDNEY The Valve Bar played host to GBOB’s South Sydney
Heat, where the best bands in the area battled it out
for a spot in the NSW Regional Final. With an elite
panel of judges, including former AC/DC drummer
Colin Burgess, Chris Farrell from Red Eye Records
and David Burgess, owner of Bass People, which is -
a fantastic store for bass players and also a GBOB
sponsor. All the bands were impressive, but in the
end Hidden Ace came through and progressed to
the next stage of the comp.
