Thrust Fault-Related Folding

U.S.A.

AAPG Memoir 94

Thrust fault-related folds form numerous important hydrocarbon traps in sub-aerial and deepwater fold and thrust belts as well as in inversion fold and thrust belts. This Memoir presents 16 papers on new advances in the analysis and understanding of thrust-related fold systems including detachment folds, thrust-fault propagation folds, wedge thrust-related fold systems and basement-involved fold systems. Case histories and examples included in this book range from the sub-aerial fold belts of the Tianshan of western China, the Zagros fold belt in Iran, the sub-Andean fold belt of Argentina, and the fold belts of the Span-ish Pyrenees, Taiwan, Wyoming, and southern California to the deepwater folds belts of offshore Brazil and the Niger delta. Theoretical, geometric, numerical and analog model studies of thrust-related fold systems combined with new seis-mic and field case studies highlight the challenges and new strategies needed to understand and to explore for hydrocarbons in fold and thrust belt systems.

AAPG Hedberg Series 4

Basin and petroleum system modeling is one of the most rapidly growing disciplines within the geosciences because of the high demand by industry for continuous improvement in predictions of petroleum generation migration, accumulation, and alteration.

This special volume contains 18 papers presented at the AAPG Hedberg Research Conference on Basin and Petroleum System Modeling (BPSM) held in Napa, California, May 3–8, 2009. These articles provide an overview of the current state of the science.

AAPG Hedberg Series, No. 4 will appeal to geochemists and BPSM modelers in industry, government, and academia; geoscientists with interest in region-specific BPSM studies; and specialists in different geoscience disciplines that are significant to the development of BPSM input parameters and simulation algorithms.

Shale Reservoirs: Giant Resources

for the 21st Century

Edited by J. A. Breyer

Memoir 97– Far from being isotropic and homogenous, as once naively envisioned, shale reservoirs are com-plexly layered accumulations of fine-grained sediment. Geologic variation on scales ranging from that of stratal architecture to that of lamination within individual beds must be understood in order to locate and exploit areas of high production within shale reservoirs. Shale reservoirs remain largely geologic plays – not merely lease plays or strictly engineering plays made possible by improvements in drilling and completion technology.

Balanced between case histories and theory, the chapters in this volume equip experienced practitioners and those just entering the field with the theories, workflows, and case history examples needed to make better reservoir manage-ment decisions in the modern oil and gas field.

Interpretation of Three-Dimensional

Seismic Data, 7TH Edition

By Alistair R. Brown

Memoir 42, 7th Edition – Interpretation of Three-Dimensional Seismic Data is the definitive, and now classic, text on the subject. Conceived in 1979 and first published in 1986, the book helps geoscientists extract more information from their seismic data and improve the quality of their interpretations (James D. Robertson). The prime focus of the book continues to be the syner-gy between 3-D seismic data and the workstation. The author passionately addresses the widespread problem of data under-utilization. Two new chapters and several new sections have been added in the Seventh Edition, but basic data understanding continues to be stressed.

Application of Resistivity-Tool-Response

Modeling for Formation Evaluation

By Hezhu Yin

Archie 2 introduces the fundamental concepts required for understanding resistivity-tool response and resistivity-log interpretation for formation evalua-tion. Resistivity-logging-tool physics and measurement accuracy are reviewed, and forward- and inverse-modeling resistivity-tool responses are intro-duced. In the case studies presented, well-deviation, shoulder-bed, bed-thickness, borehole, mud-resistivity, and invasion effects on restivity-log responses are discussed.

Petrophysical Evaluation of Hydrocarbon Pore-Thickness in Thinly

Bedded Clastic Reservoirs

By Q. R. Passey, et al.

In Archie 1, the authors conducted re-search on thin-bed evaluation methods during the years 1995—1998 and de-veloped a set of methods and practices that have been used worldwide by Exx-onMobil since then. This book describes these methods in the context of an integrated formation evaluation approach for thin-bedded reservoirs. The description is intended to provide useful information for both geosci-ence generalists and petrophysical specialists.

Stratigraphic Architecture/The Stevens Sandstone

By Melissa Lamb, Kai Anderson, and Stephan Graham

Created at the request and with the underwriting of Nor-ske Conoco (Stavanger) and the Conoco Predictive Stratigraphy Group (Houston), this is the response to their desire to find a published basinwide synthesis of the Stevens Sandstone system. A synthesis of the Stevens system was warranted, es-pecially because of significant advances in interpreting deep-water reservoir systems, greatly improved seismic technology, and because much post-1981 information resides in unpublished dissertations and provincial literature that is not widely available.

Ichnofabrics in Clastic Sediments: Applications to

Sedimentological Core StudiesBy Jean Gerard and Richard Bromley

Published by Jean R. F. Ge-rard, this atlas, containing 437 photos and 31 illustra-tions, has been written with a bias toward application of ichnological analysis, in particular to the study of trace fossils and ichnofabrics in core. After a brief introduction to ichnology in Part 1, the atlas provides an identification guide to the trace fossils commonly met with in core in Part 2. Part 3 illustrates the types of messages recorded by biogenic activity in sediments. Part 4 supplies guidelines for defining ichnofabrics that are then illustrated by a series of classic ichnofabrics in a variety of palaeoenbiron-ments. Finally, several case histories are presented in Part 5, that give “real life” examples of applications to sequence stratigraphy and reservoir description.
