THE GLOBAL CRISIS SIMULATIONFeb 17th to 20th, 2014Mumbai, India
INVITATION PACKAGEwww.gcsim.com
Dear Delegates,
It is my honor and great pleasure to invite you to the inaugural session of the University of British Columbia’s Global Crisis Simulation Conference, to be held in partnership with the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies in Mumbai.
At GCS, we believe that the society we live in today is facing many pressing challenges. These challenges require not only rigorous analysis of facts and evidence, but also institutions that can react quickly in the face of crisis. To successfully overcome these challenges, the world requires leaders who can overcome disciplinary boundaries and work across the business, government, and non-profit sectors.
I am delighted that we can bring to you the world’s premier multi-sector student conference that will deal with exactly such themes. We have spent over two years working with experts in different fields to develop our topics and a unique committee format. These committees will perfectly capture the the kinds of skills required to work in and make an impact across different sectors.
The result is an interdisciplinary student conference unlike any other in the world. What makes GCS unique is that our committees simulate problems in the public, private, and non-profit sectors, giving delegates an opportunity to analyze issues from a multi-sector perspective. Furthermore, while our committees use the usual MUN debating rules, delegates will have to analyze data, make mini presentations, and answer questions while jointly working with stakeholders from all sectors. The GCS Crisis Room, staffed by well-trained volunteers, makes for another unique aspect. They have one goal: to create crises that will enable delegates to work both independently and together as a committee, with stakeholders from all three sectors.
To say that this year’s GCS will provide an incomparable delegate experience is an understatement. This year, join us as we make history, and launch the world’s first student focused, multi-sector, crisis-based conference.
On behalf of the GCS secretariat and staff, I hope you will join us this spring from February 17th – 20th in Mumbai, India. Delegates and interested participants should feel welcome to contact me if they have any questions or concerns about the conference.
Sincerely,Hassan W BhattiSecretary General Global Crisis Simulation I
Letter from the Secretary General

Global Crisis Simulation was founded in 2013 by a group of students from the University of British Columbia with broad experience in global affairs and policy debate. They saw a need in the world for a truly innovative business and policy conference that would not only bring together the brightest minds around the world, but also solve challenges that society faces in international business, corporate governance, technology, science, and security. Thus, the world’s first multi-sector student conference was created.
The VisionGCS is focused on being the most exciting business and policy simulation event in the world. To accomplish this goal, GCS demands the highest quality in everything we do. From conducting extensive research through visiting the locations that our topics cover; to meeting with industry leaders in the field; to having our cases proofread by experts, we aim to make our conference as challenging and realistic as possible.
The ConferenceThe inaugural GCS conference will be held in Mumbai, India in February of 2014. Over 500 international delegates will have the opportunity to combine Model United Nations style debate with GCS’s unique multi-sector and crisis workshop format. Delegates will get the opportunity to act as policy consultants for governments, corporations, and non-profits in discussing interdisciplinary topics specifically created for GCS. The conference will offer a truly incomparable setting for aspiring inter-sector leaders to develop their skills and launch their careers.

GCS was formed on the principle to provide tomorrow’s leaders a chance to develop multi-sector leadership abilities. Multi-Sector leaders have been amongst the most influential people of their time. Leaders like Andrew Mellon, George Schulz, Michael Bloomberg, Bill Gates, and Barack Obama all possess skills that prepared them for work in multiple domains and disciplines. They were successful in one sector before they went on to make an impact in another.
The critical challenges society faces today — such as water scarcity, access to education, and the rising cost of healthcare — increasingly require the business, government and nonprofit sectors to work together to create lasting solutions. But this is only possible if future leaders have these skills, and at the moment, few venues exist to address these challenges. Dominic Barton, Worldwide Managing Director of McKinsey & Company, and mentor for Global Crisis Simulation, refers to tri-sector leaders as “tri-sector athletes” — leaders who are able to engage and collaborate across all three sectors. We at GCS want to provide future leaders the platform to develop such skill-sets.
