We know that there are a whole range of young people and adults looking to further their studies in the arts, and we are excited to be able to off er the chance to do so outside of school/work hours at our city centre venue. We are eager to meet our inaugural cohort – so whether you are 14 or 40+, if you have a passion for dance, take it to the next level with this dynamic course.

Course Lead Emma BradyEmma is a Norfolk dance artist with eleven years of teaching experience in a wide range of contexts. She has a proven record for nurturing the talent of young dancers. As Course Leader at City College Norwich, Emma prepared students for futures with prestigious schools and companies such as Laban and New Adventures. She is equally proud of her work with younger dancers, teaching at primary and secondary schools throughout Norfolk and catering for a range of abilities and needs. Emma has delivered a number of community projects and fi nds inspiration in working with a wide range of individuals, from weekly creative classes for young children (3-5 years) to adult summer schools and regional youth companies. Her high standards ensure that the varied needs and expectations of participants are met with empathy and enthusiasm. She has an extensive knowledge of dance qualifi cations ranging from A-Level Dance to BTEC to Arts Award. As a Dance Lecturer and Course Leader of BTEC Dance at City College Norwich for over fi ve years, Emma was graded an Outstanding teacher, something which she continuously strives for. Her enthusiasm for building her own expertise and experience has led her to undertake a variety of courses and qualifi cations since graduation at a range of organisations including the British Ballet Organization and London Contemporary Dance School. Emma was nominated and selected for the DanceUK Teachers Mentorship Programme, a professional development opportunity for teachers identifi ed by their peers as future leaders. Since 2016, Emma joined Rambert Dance Company as an Animateur. The role is one that requires working closely with the company to deliver classes and workshops based on the company’s repertoire.

ASSESSMENTStudents will be required to complete two assessment components by June 2018:

1. performance & choreography Performance (30% of GCSE / 40 marks)• Set phrases through a solo performance (approximately one minute)• Duet/trio performance (three minutes, maximum of fi ve minutes)Choreography (30% of GCSE / 40 marks)Solo or group choreography – a solo (two to two and a half minutes) or a group dance for two to fi ve dancers (three to three and a half minutes)

2. Dance appreciation Written Exam, 1 hour 30mins (40% of GCSE / 80 marks)• Based on students’ own practice in performance and choreography and

the GCSE Dance anthology• Knowledge and understanding of choreographic processes and

performing skills• Critical appreciation of own work• Critical appreciation of professional works

Course fees can be paid for the whole academic year, in four instalments, or in 16 monthly payments. A limited number of full and partial bursaries will be available.

Optional taster workshops prior to audition will be available at a cost of £15. An audition fee of £15 will be payable upon booking. This charge will not be applied to anyone who has attended a taster workshop.

A £50 non-refundable deposit will be payable to secure a place on the course. This will be due when written confi rmation of the student’s place has been given. The deposit will be deducted from the course fees when payment for the fi rst term or academic year is due.

Monthly payments of £100 will be collected on the 1st of each month from January 2017 to April 2018 inclusive. Total payable = 16 x £100 = £1600 + £50 deposit = £1650.

Additional expenses The GCSE course fees do not include the following additional expenses:• An external awarding body entry fee. The current fee for 2015/16 is

£31.60. This may change for 2016/17• A transferred candidate fee. The transferred candidate fee for summer

2015 is £30.90. This may be subject to change for 2015/16. This fee is applied when, due to exceptional circumstances, a student takes an exam at a centre other than that at which they are entered.

• Any extra coaching outside of the compulsory programme. Additional coaching may be required in the case of poor attendance.

FEESThe course will follow the new GCSE Dance specifi cation which comprises of 3 key modules – Performance, Choreography and Dance Appreciation. The new specifi cation invites students to explore a wider range of dance styles, with set works covering contemporary, ballet and hip-hop. Classes will take place at The Garage on Sundays from 10am-12.30pm commencing in January 2017 for completion in June 2018. Each 2.5 hour session will comprise of a 1 hour class, 45 minutes choreography, and 45 minutes appreciation. Sunday sessions will be complemented by tutorials, performance trips, masterclasses, guest tutors and a high profi le performance opportunity.

tHeatre trIpS anD eXternal WorKSHopSThe course fees listed include one professional performance trip and two masterclasses/guest tutor sessions. During the course, additional trips and workshops may be arranged which may require an extra fee. The Garage will look to include all additional opportunities within course fees wherever possible.

UnIform The course does not require students to wear uniform (appropriate dance wear must be worn). Students will be able to purchase ‘The Garage Dance GCSE’ hoodies and t-shirts at an additional cost. Order forms will be provided with the written confi rmation of a student’s place on the course.

recrUItmentThe course is open to adults and young people aged 14yrs+ (where a student is under this age but can demonstrate the ability to meet the demands of the course a place may be considered). All reasonable adjustments will be made to ensure accessibility of the course - if you would like to discuss individual requirements, please contact us.It is hoped that the final group will be diverse in age, gender, background, experience and style.

taSter WorKSHopPotential students are invited to attend a practical workshop with the course leader to fi nd out more about the content and expectations of the course. Attendance at a taster workshop will be charged at £15, which will be deducted from the audition fee, should the applicant choose to progress with an application.

aUDItIonSAdmission to the course will be subject to a successful audition. Potential students will be required to take part in a class, prepare a short solo and undertake a brief interview with the course leader. There will also be a group Q&A session for applicants, family and friends. An audition fee of £15 will be payable on booking. Audition places are limited and will be allocated on a fi rst come fi rst served basis.
