Students from Mrs. Giles’s seventh grade social studies classes recently enjoyed a field trip to Little Rock. The trip was funded by a grant through the National Park Service, and it offered a wonderful educational experience in Arkansas History. Students visited Little Rock Central High School Museum and participated in a two hour ranger-guided tour of the school, museum, and the surrounding area. A Capitol tour included a visit to the House and Senate guest viewing areas, the former Supreme Court chambers, the money vault in the Arkansas Treasurer’s Office, and to individual statues of the Little Rock Nine located on the Capitol lawn. Students enjoyed pizza for lunch, and the trip was capped off with a visit to the Old State House Museum. Charter buses were also a big hit, especially when the students were able to watch the World Series game while relaxing on their way home. Thank you to Sharlene Giles for the photos and for sponsoring the trip!
