Universal Viewer Application Differences
This job aid includes a high-level overview of the differences between Centricity* PACS-IW and Centricity PACS-IW with Universal Viewer. Changes and new features/functions specific to Universal Viewer are included. Please refer to the Operators Manual or feature-specific job aids for more detailed information.
Admin Console
The following options are available in the Universal Viewer Admin Console
o Smart Reading Protocol (SRP) Administrative Portal for Ontology Management o Image Grouping Setup o Privileges specific to Universal Viewer
o Autofetch_noEdit-Enable o AW-Enable o BKState-Delete o BKState-Edit o BKState-Select o IDI Enable o Pet Enable o SRP-Enable o Study-EAStatusUpdate
The privileges listed above are the privileges specific to Universal Viewer with the PACS-IW back end.
Study List
The following options are specific to the Universal Viewer Study List
o Lights On/Lights Off Themes o New look and feel of buttons and background colors
o Configuration Tool > Preferences
o Options not valid with Universal Viewer were removed Section to assign images to display on color/gray monitors (by modality) Patient Folder to display on separate monitor option

Enhanced Layouts and Hanging Protocols (HPs)
o Enhanced Layouts
o There is one layout per modality, which is valid no matter the monitor resolution or number of monitors in the workstation (study type is not considered other than modality).
These layouts are considered agnostic.
All common layouts are agnostic.
Layouts can be created for specific monitor resolutions and number of monitors if required.
o Enhanced Hanging Protocols (HPs)
o New HP placeholder/viewport options Sheet View (SV) placeholders provide the ability to move through all of the images in all of
the series in a page type format.
CR/DX, US, NM, RF, OT will open with SV placeholder HPs by default
Embedded MPR can be automatically launched in defined placeholder(s)
3D application protocol (optional feature) in specific monitor/placeholder
Advanced mammography to launch breast imaging (optional feature)
Display Notes/Reports
Display Orders
o Options in HP drop-down menu
Edit Grid provides the ability to change the format for each monitor.
Save option provides the ability to quickly save a HP and attach it to the layout automatically.
Edit Hanging Criteria provides the ability to change the hanging criteria for each viewport.
o Configuration improvements
Monitor Type, Orientation and Resolution can be assigned or selected as Any.
o Additional image presentation parameters for sheet view placeholders:
Image order
Image sorting
Apply presentation parameters
o Ability to exclude monitors from image display
o Resources specific to Universal Viewer include Universal Viewer HP naming convention

Smart Reading Protocols
o Smart reading protocols (SRP) is a learning system that learns from the users hanging preferences and offers the best matching reading protocol when an exam is opened.
o Valid for all modalities except PET/CT and Mammography (MG) Can be disabled per modality by each user
o Enabled at the site level o Privileged-based feature per user
Image Viewer
Study Management/Information
o Universal Viewer study categories are:
o Primary (study initially opened)
o Comparison 1 (most recent comparison/most recent comparison opened)
o Comparison 2 (next most recent comparison/most recent comparison opened
o Primary study cannot be de-selected in Patient Folder o User preference Dont change current study is no longer valid and therefore is not available in
Universal Viewer.
o Study Selector (left side of Navigator) provides the ability to display selected studys thumbnails in Navigator.
o Study Selector list can be filtered: Relevant exams vs. all exams Selected modalities
o Study Selector is collapsed by default
o Series Selector provides the ability to select series to display from the primary or comparison studies. o Activated via:
Series Selector tool button Click the study date (in the overlay) in a viewport Right-click an empty viewport
o Check mark indicates the series/study is currently displayed in a viewport.
o Timeline is a chronological graphical display of the patients studies, grouped by years o Activated via the Timeline toolbar button o Gaps between years indicated o Relevant studies are denoted with darker colored (or blue) tiles with an angled corner o Detailed study information is displayed via a tooltip (hoover cursor over tile to display) o Underlined date indicates a report for the study
Click the date to display the report o Double-click the tile to load the studys thumbnails into the Navigator.

Study Management/Information
o MIP/MPR o Ability to open MIP/MPR in up to three viewports in a viewing instance o Viewport title bar includes information for easy identification
o New shortcut keys are available

Saving Studies for Future Use
o Bookmarks (main toolbar)
o Ability to bookmark a study and display the bookmark when opening exam (see User Preferences = NEW).
o Can save multiple bookmarks per study.
o Conference display protocols (CDP)
o Save for Conference (CDP) option is available in the Bookmark drop down menu.
A study can have only one CDP
o Open by selecting View Selected Study for Conference in Study List right-click menu
o Save 3D option is added to the list of Done options

Tools
o Cardio-Thoracic Ratio measurement (CTR) tool
o When CTR tool is activated, the CTR will display transverse heart diameter (THD) and transverse chest diameter (TCD).
o CTR is calculated in %

User Preferences
o New window leveling (W/L) option in User Preferences
o W/L sensitivity related to mouse movement
o Monitor resolution in Multi Monitor Settings in User Preferences
o W/L sensitivity related to mouse movement

Navigator
User Preferences
o Viewed image indicator changed to Percent % of Images Displayed indicator
o Image displayed indicator is dark circle with white pie shaped areas to denote the percentage of images displayed.
o Hide PET-CT feature disable message option added to User Preferences > Miscellaneous
o If advanced visualization is implemented, this preference enables/disables the message that alerts the user that the PET-CT features will be disabled.
Other Changes/Additions
o Cine rate may be displayed as it is acquired by modality
o Window level (W/L) presets are available as keyboard shortcuts
o Embedded 3D post-processing is optional and will be available when license is installed
o Breast imaging workflow is optional and will be available when license is installed
