INTRODUCTION:

GE Ventures-Licensing (GEVL) monetizes GE technologies and intellectual property (IP) globally via creative commercialization structures ranging from licensing to new venture creation, in partnership with GE business units. There could not be a more exciting time to be a part of GE Ventures Licensing. GE has many technologies ready for commercialization and only a fraction of them have been mined. GE Ventures Licensing has been tasked to bring these deals to market. The Licensing Group is looking to double its staff over the next year. GE Ventures Licensing is looking for talented people to be part of this growth. GE Ventures Licensing is seeking deal makers, negotiators, and people that can navigate big companies. Additionally, GE Licensing needs creative problem solvers who can think of inventive ways to structure deals, create spin-outs and add to a tradition of success.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

GE Ventures Licensing is responsible for the structuring, negotiation and execution of outbound intellectual property/technology-based transactions. There are multiple positions available, and the Vortechs Group is working with GE Ventures to identify talented professionals to fill the following roles:

• Business Unit Commercial Leader

• Senior Commercial Director

• Commercial Director

• Services Director

These individuals will work closely with internal GE Venture-Licensing program development teams to prepare projects and programs for licensing to third parties. Emphasis will be placed on domains including:

• Energy

• Internet-of-Things

• Materials

• Software

• Electrical/Electronics

• Mechanical Systems

• Life Sciences

• Healthcare Technologies GE Ventures Licensing will be growing and hiring many professionals in these domains, at all levels. These positions include driving program origination from business units, as well as optimizing returns. The goal is to leverage GE Venture Licensing (GEVL) team’s capabilities in evaluation, market and business models and commercial deal negotiation and execution. Emphasis will be on developing and executing go to market strategies for programs, deal and program/team structuring, negotiation and program management, taking into account business constraints, such as IP encumbrances, regulatory, compliance, labor, trade controls and product strategies. The team will bring direct financial and strategic value of novel and various business models to GE, leading in building a culture of integrity, while pushing business boundaries. Key attributes of successful team members include a collaborative attitude, understanding of a complex corporate world, proactive and independent nature, and understanding varying timelines in a large enterprise. A passionate and creative approach to deal making, as well as a desire to contribute to growth is essential.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Organize and lead negotiations with third parties for intellectual property/technology based license (and associated) transactions

• Partner with GEVL Program Managers in developing business cases for new programs from GE patents/technologies/businesses

• Partner with GEVL Program Build Teams to identify appropriate patent/technology candidates to build into revenue producing license (or associated) programs

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in commercializing and licensing various technologies and intellectual property in corporate setting preferred. More senior roles require a minimum of 10 years

• Undergraduate degree in engineering, physical, software or healthcare sciences, advanced degree preferred

• MBA in marketing or finance or legal equivalent degree

• Demonstrated knowledge of building business cases for patent/technology driven programs, including market sizing, valuation and customer identification

• Experience commercializing new technology in healthcare, energy, materials, software, IoT, electrical and mechanical system domains

• Demonstrated experience in intellectual property analysis and landscape assessment

• Excellent communication and presentation skills

• Experience with IP technology transfer, licensing, sale and/or for joint development across multiple companies

• Able to effectively interface with all levels of internal and external customers & stakeholders

• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
