Gender, Place, & Culture GEOG/WAGS 333, 3 credits Alternative Delivery Syllabus Addendum Instructor Information: Dr. Angela Subulwa Office Hours: MF 9 – 10 and by appointment Email: [email protected] COVID-19 Statement I want to start by acknowledging several new realities: 1. We did not sign up for this None of us intended to teach/learn remotely or be isolated from our classmates, colleagues, friends, and campus community 2. We will need new priorities We will need new priorities with more focus on supporting each other, being flexible with one another, sharing resources, and communicating clearly and often 3. The class will have to change Our original objectives, assignments, & processes may no longer make sense and so we will adjust (and we may have to re-adjust) 4. We can still learn All content will be accessible to everyone in an asynchronous manner (to account for our new, complex reality) There will be opportunities for synchronous (“live”) discussions if you want or need them (always optional) 5. We can in a little feminist praxis with one another This means understanding and support each others perspectives and the very different ways these changes may impact us - It means always responding with KINDESS Course Delivery & Contact Class will be delivered through readings, videos, small lectures, PowerPoints, and discussions available through Canvas. We will stick to the course schedule as much as possible but I have decreased the reading and writing loads. Office hours and individual appointments will take place using Collaborate Ultra (which is available in Canvas). We can also explore using Microsoft Teams and/or Zoom if that works better for you. Textbooks We only have 1 chapter left to read from Feminist Spaces: Gender & Geography in the Global Context (during Week 9). We will read and discuss When the Light is Fire Maasai schoolgirls in contemporary Kenya during Weeks 11 and 12. There will also be supplemental readings distributed on Canvas.
